ABOUT THE TOUR

Alpinisteig (B/C) - possible variant (A/B): The "Alpini" were the Italian mountain troops during World War I. The route takes its name from these troops, who painstakingly carved the route of this absolute classic via ferrata out of the rock. The narrow crevice in the rock is particularly famous, offering a very special photo opportunity. Like many via ferratas in the Dolomites, the Alpinisteig also has a very special history, which, while anything but beautiful and glorious, is nevertheless part of this region. This touch of history can be felt everywhere as soon as you move along the blasted ledges along the Elferkofel and La Mitra, and it gives the Alpinisteig its very special character. The route, which does not lead upwards like most via ferratas, but always crosses the steep rock faces without any particular gain or loss of altitude, also makes this via ferrata special. Enough reasons to try this very special via ferrata in the heart of the Sesto Dolomites.

PROGRAM

The starting point for this tour is the Fischleintal valley near Sesto. Here, we'll conduct a quick equipment check and distribute any necessary rental equipment.

We'll cover almost all of the elevation gain today during the approach. Initially, however, the trail is also flat again until we reach the Talschlusshütte hut. Then we'll climb steeply through the forest and later up over the typical Dolomite cirques to the Sentinellascharte.

The start of the via ferrata is located directly at the Sentinellascharte. Here, we'll put on our harnesses, put on our helmets, and assemble our via ferrata equipment. It's also possible to have the mountain guide secure us with a rope at any time if we feel unwell. After all, the tour should be enjoyable for everyone.

We now continue traversely, without gaining or losing much elevation, along the walls of the Elferkofel, along the blasted path, secured by wire ropes, to the Elferscharte. A short stretch of hiking trail follows until we reach rock faces again. This time, it's below the Elferturm.

This is followed by the classic section of the Alpinisteig trail at the Zsigmondykopf below La Mitria and La Spada, where the famous rock crevice is now located. At the exit, we reach the Eissee (ice lake) and follow the hiking trail through this breathtaking Dolomite backdrop to the Zsigmondy Hut, where we'll enjoy a well-deserved refreshment. We've now mastered all the technical climbing difficulties on this tour, and all that remains is the descent along the Dolomite High Route No. 5 back to the Talschluss Hut and out to the Dolomitenhof, where we parked our car early this morning.

Overall, this is a long and demanding via ferrata circuit, which will take us eight hours to complete and is particularly suitable for fit via ferrata hikers.

The tour can be shortened somewhat by skipping the Sentinellascharte and ascending directly to the Elferscharte. This way, we skip the first part of the via ferrata and "only" do the original Alpinisteig. Nevertheless, the tour, with its 7 hours, is still reserved for mountaineers with good physical fitness, but is becoming significantly easier, especially in terms of climbing difficulty, with max. A/B passages.

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
