ABOUT THE TOUR
Ferrata Ivano Dibona - Cristallino d'Ampezzo (B): A beautiful via ferrata that follows the Wetsgrat on the Cristallo massif and offers a wonderful panorama almost constantly. The route, not always secured by wire ropes, follows old war trails from the First World War, so along this adventurous via ferrata you'll discover numerous remains of emplacements, old war tunnels, and other war relics that vividly and vividly illustrate the achievements of the soldiers back then. A former Alpini command post in the Forcella Padeon was converted into emergency accommodation for the climbers. Another highlight of this via ferrata is the 30-meter-long Ponte Cristallo suspension bridge, which some may remember from the 1993 film Cliffhanger starring Sylvester Stallone. A few years ago, it was still possible to take the cable car up to the Forcella Staunies and the Lorenzi Hut. Both were closed until further notice in 2016. There's supposedly a project for a new cable car, but things are moving slowly in Italy. So, we're currently forced to walk an additional 700 meters from the Rifugio San Foca (which we reach by chairlift) to the Staunies Saddle. However, there are far fewer people on the via ferrata than a few years ago, when you could take the gondola directly up to the start. With the many facets and impressive history offered by the Ivano Dibona via ferrata, the day is far more than just a mountain hike; it's an unforgettable experience.

PROGRAM
The starting point for this tour is the parking lot just below Passo Tre Croci. After a quick gear check, we'll take the chairlift up to Rifugio San Foca.
From there, we continue on foot below the closed gondola to Forcella Staunies. The cable car was closed in 2016, so we have to climb an additional 700 meters. It takes us about two hours to get to the notch, where the entrance is located.
Here we'll put on our climbing harnesses, put on our helmets, and assemble our via ferrata sets. Those who feel more comfortable will also be secured by the mountain guide's rope on this via ferrata, which isn't secured with wire ropes throughout.
Right at the start, we'll encounter one of the highlights of the via ferrata: the 30-meter-long Ponte Cristallo suspension bridge, made world-famous by the film Cliffhanger. The first section is the heart of the Ferrata Ivano Dibona. In addition to the suspension bridge, several ladders and old war tunnels provide some variety.
As we continue along the via ferrata, we'll encounter numerous World War I fortifications. The entire via ferrata alone will take us almost five hours. With a short detour, we can even climb a 3,000-meter peak, the Cristallino d'Ampezzo, as a bonus.
Either way, at the end of this rather long and challenging via ferrata, we'll be happy but also tired as we descend the last few meters back to the starting point, remembering a magnificent day in the Cristallo massif of the Ampezzo Dolomites for a long time to come.
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
