Ahornach - Hans Kammerlander Klettersteig (E): nomen est omen. The via ferrata named after extreme mountaineer Hans Kammerlander in his home village of Ahornach absolutely lives up to its name. An extremely demanding and difficult via ferrata through a 300-metre-high vertical rock wall requires total commitment and solid climbing technique. This via ferrata is reserved for only the most experienced and strong via ferrata climbers.
Major exposure and fantastic views straight down demand a good head for heights and steady nerves. The route is only rarely easier than C; it also features two sections graded E as well as many D sections. Strong endurance is essential – escape exits: none. A brilliant and demanding via ferrata adventure for anyone looking for a real challenge and wanting to hang on properly and give it everything on a via ferrata.

PROGRAM
Day tour: Ahornach via ferrata
We meet directly in Ahornach in the village, where we park. From the village centre we descend slightly to the start of the Hans Kammerlander Klettersteig. The approach takes about 30 minutes. From there, it is a good 3 hours of holding on, climbing higher, staying on the wall, and in between enjoying the fantastic views straight down the steep face.
A truly demanding and very rewarding via ferrata adventure that experienced via ferrata climbers can definitely look forward to. Many varied passages await us, including suspension bridges in different styles, a 15-metre-long hanging ladder, a tree trunk, and excellent climbing sections. From the exit, we then head back to the village and the starting point of our tour, full of strong impressions.

Who is the Hans Kammerlander Klettersteig suitable for?
The route is suitable only for very experienced and strong via ferrata climbers. Anyone who feels comfortable on long, exposed passages in the D to E range and is also physically strong will really enjoy it here.
How long does the tour take?
You should allow around 4 hours for the entire tour. This includes the short approach from Ahornach, the via ferrata itself, and the descent back to the starting point.
What equipment do I need to bring?
Most important are suitable mountain boots and clothing for the day. The detailed packing list will be sent with the confirmation email. Technical equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
