Hexenstein and the Ferrata Sottotenente Fusetti make for an entertaining via ferrata in the Dolomites where you experience history up close.

Hexenstein - Ferrata Sottotenente Fusetti (B/C): An enjoyable via ferrata on the sunny side of the Hexenstein, amid war relics and tunnels from the First World War. A wonderful adventure for children, too, and for history-loving mountaineers.

The via ferrata up the Hexenstein has plenty of surprises in store. First you head through old war tunnels right through the middle of the mountain (don't forget your head torch!), until you suddenly find yourself on the south side, facing the vertical rock face that the via ferrata then climbs. At the top, you follow the old trenches to the summit and, on the descent, pass numerous positions on the way back to the Valparola Pass.

Thanks to these special features, both the approach and the descent are highly entertaining. A great via ferrata for families, where you experience history up close almost in passing and come to understand what it must have meant to fight as a soldier on the Dolomite front.
