Naturno - Hoachwool Via Ferrata (D): An impressive via ferrata, which, despite its proximity to the valley and virtually no access, is one of the most demanding and longest via ferrata tours in South Tyrol. An undertaking that should not be taken lightly. This is demonstrated by the numerous mountain rescue missions, which regularly rescue overtaxed and dehydrated climbers from the via ferrata. This route takes its name from the historic irrigation channels in the Vinschgau Valley. These are old wooden irrigation channels that, through the steep rock faces, transported the water, so precious in the very dry Vinschgau, to the various agricultural areas. Parts of this historic irrigation system have been reconstructed in the middle section of the via ferrata. And since you're already in the area, enthusiastic mountaineers have the opportunity to visit the Messner Mountain Museum at Juval Castle. The first of Reinhold Messner's museums is located directly across from the Hoachwool Via Ferrata. The via ferrata is not recommended during the hot summer months. The sun beats down on the vertical south-facing walls, heating them to unbearable levels. Furthermore, the already challenging D-rated via ferrata also offers an extremely difficult E/F variant (optional) – for those looking for the ultimate challenge.
