PROGRAMME
Day 1: Via the East Couloir
We meet in Sulden at the car park of the cable car to the Schaubachhütte. When booking, an alternative meeting point can also be arranged so that we can drive to Sulden together. At the car park we do a short gear check before setting off into the night.
A very early start is essential for this tour, as the steep East Couloir is exposed to direct sunlight from sunrise onwards. By the light of our headlamps we first climb along the piste, then over the glacial moraines and finally across the Suldenferner glacier to the foot of the couloir.
There we switch to crampons and strap our skis to our rucksacks. Up the East Couloir, where we will most likely enjoy a beautiful sunrise, we reach a broad traversing ledge that leads us to the foot of the summit slope. A short, exposed section of ridge then takes us to the summit of the Königsspitze. At the top, a sweeping view of the glaciated world of the Ortler Alps awaits.
The descent follows our ascent route. Good conditions and the right timing are absolutely essential on this demanding ski mountaineering tour. Then, despite its steepness and exposure, the descent becomes a real pleasure.

You will receive the detailed packing list with the confirmation email. Most important are your ski touring equipment and crampons; any missing equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
