Latemar Towers (C): This wonderful traverse – or rather crossing – of the Latemar Towers is a fantastic combination of demanding mountain hiking, spiced up with plenty of truly interesting via ferrata sections along the way. It never gets monotonous and stays exciting from start to finish. If you still have some energy left at the end of the via ferrata, you can add the summit of the Latemarspitze with an extra ascent. Varied terrain, a great summit, beautiful climbing sections – a thoroughly successful day in the mountains. What more could you want?

PROGRAMME
Day tour: Latemar Towers
We take the chairlift from Obereggen up to the Oberholz top station. From here we start the approach, first to the Gamsstallscharte, then through the upper Laste di Valsorda, past the Erzlahnscharte and finally up to the Rotlahnscharte, where the route begins.
Here we put on our via ferrata equipment and make our way across the varied terrain along the Latemar Towers: sometimes at a leisurely pace on good paths, then again with a firm grip on the cable-protected climbing sections.
Thanks to the varied terrain, we seem to reach the exit far too quickly and, after a short descent to the Latemarscharte, the Bivacco Rigatti. Here we decide whether we still have the time and stamina for the Latemarspitze or whether that is enough for today and we tackle the long descent. That will keep us busy for a while too.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
How difficult is the via ferrata on the Latemar Towers?
The route is graded C and requires sure-footedness, a head for heights and some via ferrata experience. On top of that, the tour is long overall – so it is not just the protected sections that are demanding, but the whole day in the mountains.
Can I add the Latemarspitze as well?
Yes, if you still have enough energy and time, you can also climb the Latemarspitze. This detour is optional and is decided on the spot together with the mountain guide – depending on fitness, weather and how the day is going.
What should I bring for the tour?
Above all, you need sturdy mountain boots and suitable clothing for a long day in the mountains. You will receive the detailed packing list with your confirmation email. Via ferrata equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
