Masaré via ferrata (C): The Masaré via ferrata in the Rosengarten follows the ridge of the same name and is without doubt one of the most beautiful and spectacular via ferratas in the entire Dolomites. An absolute gem and a must for every via ferrata enthusiast!
Leading along numerous ridge towers, through rock clefts and across airy face passages, this via ferrata in the southern part of the Rosengarten is constantly varied and offers some impressive sections. With its C difficulty, it is demanding but very rewarding. The roughly 700 vertical metres add up through the constant up and down along the ridge.

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Across the Masaré ridge
At the car park, we carry out a short equipment check and hand out any rental equipment needed. We take the chairlift up to the Paolina Hut and hike past the Rotwand Hut to the start of the Masaré via ferrata.
At the start, we put on harnesses and helmets and attach our via ferrata sets. Anyone who does not yet feel entirely comfortable is additionally secured on the mountain guide's rope, so that the via ferrata is a pleasure for everyone.
Constantly varied and spiced up with a few punchy passages graded C, the via ferrata leads along numerous ridge towers – sometimes right on the crest, then through deep clefts and corners or across exposed face passages over the Masaré ridge. Again and again, we have time to enjoy the panorama, catch our breath and soak up the landscape before the next section challenges us once more.
At the end, we treat ourselves to some well-earned refreshments at the Rotwand Hut before returning along the hiking trail to the Paolina Hut.

Who is the Masaré via ferrata suitable for?
The Masaré via ferrata is a guided tour for sure-footed mountain walkers with good fitness and some via ferrata experience. The difficulty is C, plus the constant up and down along the ridge – so you should feel comfortable in exposed terrain.
What do I need for the tour?
Above all, you need sturdy mountain boots and suitable clothing for a day in the mountains. The detailed packing list comes with the confirmation email. Technical equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
Do we use a lift on this tour?
Yes, we usually take the chairlift up to the Paolina Hut, which makes the approach much more pleasant. Without the lift, the tour is noticeably longer and involves additional vertical metres. This way, you save more energy for the actual via ferrata.
