ABOUT THE TOUR

Oskar Schuster Via Ferrata (B/C, I+) - Saxon Switzerland: Oskar Schuster was a Saxon who discovered this route through the vertical and wild rock faces on the north side of the Saxon Switzerland in 1895. The via ferrata leads from the Saxon Switzerland cirque, nestled between breathtakingly wild rock faces in the heart of the Sassolungo group, up to the summit of the Saxon Switzerland. Once at the top, a spectacular panorama opens up, and a surprisingly easy return route leads from this forbidding massif on its north side over a wide scree slope down to the Saxon Switzerland Hut and via the Friedrich August Trail back to the starting point at the Sella Pass.

PROGRAM

At the parking lot, we'll conduct a quick gear check and distribute any necessary rental equipment.

From the Sella Pass, we'll first follow the beautiful hiking trail past the Stone City and climb the typical Dolomite cirque via switchbacks to the Toni Demetz Hut at the Sassolungo Forcella. From there, we'll descend again to the Sassolungo Hut and then follow the marked trail into the Sassopiatto cirque to the start of the Oskar Schuster via ferrata (there's often still snow here well into the summer).

At the start, we'll put on our climbing harnesses and helmets and assemble our via ferrata sets. Those who aren't yet feeling completely comfortable will be secured with the mountain guide's rope to ensure the via ferrata experience is enjoyable for everyone.

Along the beautiful via ferrata in a wild and breathtaking setting, we'll slowly but surely climb higher and higher, finally reaching the 2,958-meter-high summit of the Sasso Piatto. Once at the top, we'll enjoy a wonderful panorama in the heart of the Dolomites before continuing down the hiking trail on the southwest side to the Plattkofel Hut and back to the starting point at the Sella Pass via the Friedrich August Trail.

A long tour for fit via ferrata climbers, but one that will reward you many times over for the effort!

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
