ABOUT THE TOUR
Piz Palü - Ski Tour: The Piz Palü traverse in the Bernina Range is one of the great classics of ski touring in the Alps. And there's a good reason for this: We're moving in the "Ballroom of the Alps." This is what this unique glacial cirque with the Pers and Morteratsch glaciers in the background of Piz Palü and Piz Bernina is also called. From our accommodation, the Diavolezza Hut, we have a breathtaking view of this fantastic mountain world. We reach the hut in a relaxed manner on the first day by cable car. This makes it easy to arrive on the same day. The tour itself takes us up over exciting glaciers until we reach the wonderful firn and ice ridge on the eastern summit of Piz Palü. We continue along the exposed ridge to the main summit and along the other side of the summit towards Piz Spinas. This tour is crowned by the subsequent descent from the Bellavistas Saddle through the "hole," past massive icefalls and wonderful ski slopes across the Morteratsch Glacier. Depending on the snow conditions, we can ski right down to the train station in Morteratsch. With a cold beer in the warming spring sunshine and a view of our downhill tracks, we reflect on this fantastic tour. The train then takes us back up to the pass where we parked our car. An unforgettable alpine ski tour with relatively little ascent for plenty of downhill in a breathtaking setting.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Arrival and Diavolezza Hut
For this tour, a late afternoon meeting point is sufficient (the cable car to the Diavolezza Hut runs until 5 p.m.). This allows for a relaxed arrival on the same day. We'll do a quick gear check at the valley station parking lot and then take the cable car up to Diavolezza. After checking in, we'll discuss the tour in the evening and pack our backpacks for the next day. In the evening, we'll enjoy a delicious meal with a beautiful view of the Bernina Range from the glass-fronted restaurant in the hut—which could practically be described as a hotel. With prior reservation, it's also possible to rent the jacuzzi on the terrace and end the afternoon in a hot tub with a unique panorama at 3,000 meters.
Day 2: Piz Palü Traverse
The next morning, with the first light of day, we set off towards Piz Palü. After a hearty breakfast, which will provide us with the necessary energy, we first ski down a few hundred meters to the Pers Glacier. Once on the glacier, we'll mount our skins and rope up for the ascent across the crevasse-filled glacier. A good 1,000 meters of ascent follow to the notch below the eastern summit. Here, we'll mount our skis on our backpacks and ascend the increasingly steep slope to the exposed snow ridge. The ridge leads first to the eastern summit and then to the main summit. We then descend to the shoulder between the main summit and Piz Spinas, where we'll reach the Altiplano di Fellaria Glacier on the Italian side via a steep flank on the south side. We'll return to Switzerland via the Bellavistas Saddle, where a fantastic descent over the Morteratsch Glacier to Morteratsch awaits us. It's 2,000 meters of ascent from the summit to the Morteratsch train station, where we can often ski down to the summit late in the season.
Tip: It's possible to extend the tour by another day and stay overnight at the Boval Hut. Depending on conditions, we will undertake a tour from the hut on the third day. If all goes well, Piz Bernina would be one (very challenging) of several easier tour options from this hut.
If you would like to spend three days skiing in the Bernina Range, please let us know when you enquire, and we will plan the tour according to your personal preferences!
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
