ABOUT THE TOUR

Pößnecker Klettersteig (C/D, II): The Pößnecker Klettersteig, located on the west side of the Sella massif, directly opposite the Sassolungo, is one of the oldest via ferratas in the Dolomites. The via ferrata also has several sections that require climbing up to grade II and are not secured with a wire rope. The assistance of a mountain guide can be particularly valuable here. The greatest difficulties are found in the very first part of the via ferrata. The subsequent ascent becomes easier all the way to the Sella plateau. A lunar-like landscape that seems almost surreal. The particularly long descent across the plateau and through the Val Lasties back to the road makes this tour a full-day undertaking, even for fit mountaineers. Those who dare to take on this tour will be rewarded with one of the absolute via ferrata highlights in the Dolomites and with a tour that offers many other scenic highlights beyond a beautiful via ferrata.

PROGRAM

We park at the Sella Pass. Here, we'll conduct a quick gear check and distribute any necessary rental equipment.

After a short approach from the parking lot, we'll soon reach the start of the via ferrata. Here, we'll put on our climbing harnesses and helmets and assemble our via ferrata sets. Without much preliminaries, we'll begin with challenging sections. Those who aren't quite comfortable yet, or whose physical and mental limits are being shown, will be secured with the mountain guide's rope to ensure the via ferrata experience is enjoyable for everyone.

We'll climb ever higher into the Sella Massif, sometimes with rope protection, sometimes without. Once we've overcome the first 250 meters of the via ferrata, the main technical difficulties are over.

A short walking section finally separates the lower section of the via ferrata from the upper section. At the exit, we reach Piz Selva (2,941 meters) and, after a long rest with a stunning summit panorama, we slowly begin the long descent.

This takes us across the Sella Plateau and through the Val Lasties back to the road, where we can either hitchhike or take the bus back to the Sella Pass.

A beautiful and full-day tour in a fantastic Dolomite landscape with a challenging and classic via ferrata of the Dolomites.

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
