Sas Rigais via ferrata (B/C): The traverse of the Sas Rigais in the Villnößer Geisler – up the east route (B) and down via the Villnöss route (B/C) or the southwest route (B/C) – is a dream tour for via ferrata climbers with good stamina, leading to the highest summit of the Geisler peaks in Villnöss.
Starting from Val Gardena, the route leads across flower-filled alpine meadows into the wild, rugged Dolomite landscape of the Geisler peaks, to a summit that looks almost unconquerable from the Villnöss valley to the north. A great Dolomites classic and an impressive traverse.
Incidentally, the Ladin name for the Geisler peaks is Odles, meaning "needles" – standing in front of this rocky backdrop, there is little need to debate where the name might come from. The name Sass Rigais also comes from Ladin: "sas" means rock.

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Sas Rigais traverse
At the car park, we carry out a short equipment check and hand out any rental equipment needed. We then take the cable car from St. Christina to Col Raiser. From here, we hike across beautiful alpine meadows into the ever wilder setting of the Geisler peaks. By the time we enter the Wasserrinnental at the latest, we are right in the middle of the Dolomites. Via the Salieres notch, we reach the start of the east route, where the via ferrata begins. We put on harnesses and helmets and attach our via ferrata sets. Anyone who does not yet feel entirely comfortable is additionally secured on the mountain guide's rope. On the summit of the Sas Rigais, the view opens up far across Val Gardena and the Villnöss valley. After a short break, we descend via one of the two via ferrata variants on the west side to the Mittagsscharte. Across the alpine meadows, we return to our starting point.

Who is the Sas Rigais via ferrata suitable for?
The tour is suitable for via ferrata climbers with good stamina who feel comfortable in steeper terrain. The traverse is graded B/C and planned as a day tour of around 7 hours.
How does the day work with the approach and cable car?
We start at the car park with a short equipment check. We then take the cable car from St. Christina to Col Raiser and from there climb via alpine meadows, the Wasserrinnental and the Salieres notch to the start of the route. The descent leads down the west side to the Mittagsscharte and back to the starting point.
What equipment do I need to bring?
The detailed packing list comes with the confirmation email. Above all, you need sturdy mountain boots and suitable clothing for a long day in the mountains. Via ferrata equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
