Arabba - Trincee via ferrata (C/D): A beautiful via ferrata with superb views of the Marmolada. A conglomerate via ferrata in the heart of the Dolomites with varied climbing sections. Sometimes through wall passages with few holds, then over sharp ridges and through long, dark war tunnels where you even need your headtorch.
Also ideal as a plan B if the weather is not settled enough for an ascent of the Marmolada, as the via ferrata can be reached quickly thanks to its cable car connection. But even as a main objective it is a more than worthwhile via ferrata that you simply have to have done, if only for the unusual rock and the panorama. It is precisely the mix of the special rock and the old First World War tunnels that makes the Via Ferrata delle Trincee so special.

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Via Ferrata delle Trincee
We meet at the valley station of the large cable cars up to Porta Vescovo in Arabba. First, we take the cable car up towards Porta Vescovo. A short approach follows to the start, where the very unusual conglomerate rock of this ferrata awaits. Without much time to warm up, we go straight into the crux.
The rest of the via ferrata is varied: sometimes over sharp ridges, then through wall sections with few holds and through a long war tunnel – so don't forget your headtorch. It will be a varied day with the option of a detour to the Sasso dell’Eremita – and a beautiful via ferrata in the heart of the Dolomites, directly opposite the Marmolada.

Is the Via Ferrata delle Trincee also suitable as a plan B in uncertain weather?
Yes, the tour is often a good plan B when an ascent of the Marmolada is not advisable. Thanks to the cable car to Porta Vescovo, the start is reached quickly. Of course, the current weather on the day of the tour is always the deciding factor.
What must I bring for the tour?
Above all, you need a headtorch for the tunnels and suitable mountain boots. You will receive the detailed packing list with your confirmation email. Via ferrata equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
How difficult is the Trincee via ferrata really?
The tour is graded C/D, which makes it rather spicy. You should therefore be sure-footed and feel at home on steeper, exposed via ferrata terrain. It is precisely the wall sections with few holds and the ridge passages that make this tour so appealing.
