A major four-thousander in the Valais Alps, ideal for getting to know the world of high glaciated mountains.

Bishorn - Normal Route: Bishorn lies in the mountain and glacier landscape of the Valais Alps. Prominent peaks such as the Matterhorn, the Monte Rosa massif, the Dom, the Zinalrothorn, the Dent Blanche and, not least, the Weisshorn are all in the immediate neighbourhood. From the summit, we will even have a particularly fine view of the latter.
Surrounded by these demanding and difficult alpine tours, Bishorn is a highly rewarding summit objective. It allows less powerful alpinists as well to enter the world of the 4,000-metre peaks and experience that special feeling of being part of this immense mountain world, looking across at its ridges and faces at eye level. The Normal Route via the Cabane de Tracuit is technically easy, but it requires stamina and a good rhythm over two days.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Ascent to the hut
We meet in Zinal at the large car park at the end of the valley. After a short gear check, we begin the long but very beautiful ascent to the Cabane de Tracuit. The trail climbs steadily, which is already a good foretaste of the tour: nothing complicated, but certainly a proper mountain day. In the afternoon, we stay around the hut and recover our strength for the summit ascent. There is usually plenty of time to cover any basic questions you may have about ropework and glacier safety techniques.

Day 2: Summit and descent
The next morning, Bishorn is on the programme. We begin the ascent before first light. On the way, we experience a beautiful sunrise, and of course there is time for a few photos as well. At a steady pace, we continue gaining height until we reach the summit of Bishorn. Particularly impressive is the view across to the Weisshorn with its striking north ridge, but all around there is also the full roll call of the famous peaks of the Valais. Once we have fully savoured the summit moment, we begin our descent back to the hut and then further down into the valley to Zinal.

Who is the Bishorn tour suitable for?
The tour is suitable for enduring mountaineers who would like to take on their first four-thousander. Technically, Bishorn is rather easy, but you should still be sure-footed and prepared for a long approach as well as movement at high altitude.
What equipment do I need?
You will receive the exact packing list with the confirmation email. Most important are suitable mountaineering boots and warm clothing for the early summit start. Technical equipment can be hired from Südtiroler Bergführer for a small wear fee.
How demanding is the Normal Route on Bishorn?
The Normal Route is technically easy, but it requires good stamina. In particular, the long approach to the Cabane de Tracuit and the summit day followed by the descent to Zinal make the tour physically demanding.
