VIA FERRATA
SOUTH TIROL / TRENTINO

EISACKTAL AND WIPPTAL

Pfitsch
Ölberg (C)
This wonderfully sunny via ferrata on the south side of Mount Ölberg runs at an astonishingly steep angle through the rock faces on the valley floor of the Pfitschertal valley. This provides wonderful views and some very beautiful climbing sections. Other features of this via ferrata include a virtually unobstructed approach and a short descent with a suspension bridge.

PUSTERTAL

Sand in Taufers
Pirate Children's Via Ferrata (A/B)
A very nice pirate-themed via ferrata for little ones. Very creative elements with cannonballs and nets, as well as climbing sections on the "sword edge," and many other surprise elements. The goal for the kids is to "board" the pirate ship at the end of the via ferrata.

Sand in Taufers
Speikboden via ferrata (C)
This via ferrata is another ideal climb for beginners at Speikboden. Anyone who wants to try their hand at hanging from the wire ropes has the perfect starting point. The via ferrata is very well secured, and the most challenging section is right at the beginning, with the option of escaping via the emergency exit and doing something easier nearby.

St. Vigil in Enneberg
Piz da Peres via ferrata (C/D)
The new via ferrata on Piz da Peres opened in 2022 and has immediately enjoyed great popularity. It's no wonder, given the moderate difficulty on this very beautiful panoramic mountain at the northernmost edge of the Dolomites, providing ideal conditions for a fantastic day of via ferrata climbing with a fantastic panorama at the summit.

Ahornach
Hans Kammerlander Via Ferrata (E)
The name says it all. The via ferrata named after extreme mountaineer Hans Kammerlander, located in his hometown of Ahornach, absolutely lives up to its name. An extremely demanding and difficult via ferrata through a 300-meter-high vertical rock face, it demands absolute determination and technical climbing skill. This via ferrata is reserved only for very experienced and strong via ferrata climbers. The extreme exposure and fantastic views down below require a head for heights and strong nerves.

SARNTALER ALPS

Ifinger
Heini Holzer Via Ferrata (B/C)
A long, enjoyable via ferrata with a beautiful panorama of Merano, of medium difficulty. A fantastic mountain experience for the whole family, on a beautiful summit with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Sarntal Alps in the heart of South Tyrol and deep into the Vinschgau Valley.

VINSCHGAU

Naturns
Hoachwool (D)
An impressive via ferrata, which, despite its proximity to the valley and virtually no access, is one of the most challenging and longest via ferratas in South Tyrol. This route takes its name from the historic irrigation canals in the Vinschgau Valley. These are old wooden irrigation channels that transported valuable water, so precious in the very dry Vinschgau region, to the various agricultural areas through the steep rock faces.

Passeiertal
Stuller Water Fall (D)
This impressive via ferrata runs alongside the roaring waters of the Stuller Bach, which plunges into the depths in two stages at one of Italy's highest waterfalls. The four sections offer not only the "normal" version, which is easily challenging enough for most via ferrata climbers (D), but also extreme variants up to difficulty level E/F.

Sulden
Tabaretta Via Ferrata (E)
The setting for this extreme classic via ferrata in South Tyrol could hardly be more impressive. Directly beneath the north face of King Ortler (South Tyrol's highest peak), a very challenging via ferrata leads almost vertically through the 500-meter-high rock face that separates the Tabaretta Hut from the Payer Hut.

UNTERLAND

Fennberg
Fennberg Via Ferrata (C)
In the lowlands on the border of South Tyrol and Trentino, this beautiful via ferrata runs high above the vineyards of the Etschtal Valley. You can soak up many hours of sunshine here on the eastern flank of the Fennberg almost year-round. However, due to the orientation and altitude, it is usually very hot, especially in summer, so it's best visited in spring or autumn.

TRENTINO

Mezzocorona
Burrone Canyon (B)
This beautiful classic via ferrata high above Mezzocorona leads through a deep gorge with outstanding scenery and is also an ideal family via ferrata thanks to its low level of difficulty, the relatively short approach and the option of using a spectacular cable car for the way back down to the valley.

Mezzolombardo
Val del Ri Via Ferrata (C)
A modern and very varied via ferrata through the Val del Ri gorge above Mezzolombardo, which, together with the two other gorges, Burrone and Rio Secco, around Mezzocorona in the Adige Valley, forms a beautiful gorge trilogy. The via ferrata in the Val del Ri features several rope bridges, where the roaring stream below is repeatedly crossed spectacularly. The route then climbs up the canyon's flanks and alongside impressive waterfalls.

San Michele
Rio Secco (C)
A classic in the Etsch Valley is the Rio Secco via ferrata, which leads through several steep, challenging sections through the canyon above San Michele. The name suggests that the stream bed is dry. However, this is usually only the case in autumn. Nevertheless, due to its orientation and low elevation, this via ferrata can be climbed practically year-round.

LAKE GARDA

Via Ferrata Lake Garda
Via ferratas
While the Dolomites are still covered in snow and the first spring flowers are only slowly blooming in South Tyrol, just about an hour's drive south, it's often T-shirt and gelato weather. Lake Garda boasts a large number of fantastic via ferratas of all levels of difficulty, making them ideal even in the cooler months. We'll round off these beautiful days with an ice cream or Veneziano in the piazza of Arco, Riva, or directly on Lake Garda.
