The Rosengarten is the home of South Tyrol's most famous legend. It tells of King Laurin, who fell in love with Simhilde, the daughter of the Adige king, and kidnapped her into his kingdom with the help of a cap of invisibility that he possessed. King Laurin's castle was surrounded by a beautiful rose garden that stretched as far as the Seiser Alm . Dietrich von Bern was commissioned to free the princess. He could quickly locate King Laurin, overpower him, and free the king's daughter. King Laurin knew that his rose garden, visible from far away and with its intoxicating fragrance, had betrayed him, and so he cursed it to become rock and stone so that no one would ever see the roses again, neither day nor night. However, he forgot about twilight, and so even today King Laurin's rose garden still glows in wonderful red tones in the evening sun on some days.
