Ampezzo Dolomites

THE REGION
The Ampezzo Dolomites extend around Cortina d'Ampezzo – an area encompassing several Dolomite massifs, offering some of the most spectacular peaks in perfect contrast to leisurely hikes and stunningly beautiful valleys. Although the Ampezzo Dolomites are not located directly in South Tyrol , they border it and are easily accessible from both Val Badia and Dobbiaco .
Like many places in the Dolomites , countless traces of the First World War front can be found here. But this area in particular boasts many well-preserved galleries, tunnels, and trenches that have been restored and can be explored on beautiful hikes or via ferratas . Those who venture off the beaten track will still find plenty of relics, such as ammunition and grenade fragments, from this dark chapter of history.
In addition to being a mecca for via ferrata enthusiasts, the Ampezzo Dolomites also offer a seemingly endless array of alpine climbing routes for alpine climbers . There's plenty to do, from perfectly protected leisurely routes to alpine adventures in easy terrain to long adventures on truly large Dolomite walls. The south face of the Tofana di Rozes is one of the most famous walls in the entire Dolomites.
Long-distance hikers will also be able to hike through the Ampezzo Dolomites on several different routes along the Dolomites high trails and spend the night in wonderfully situated huts.
Another winter highlight of this region is undoubtedly the so-called Mountain Infantry Circuit . This route takes you on groomed slopes around the Col di Lana , which gained notoriety during the First World War when a surprise attack through underground tunnels blew away the entire summit and enemy positions. Today, with a single ski pass – the Dolomiti Superski – you can circumnavigate the entire region on some of the most beautiful and spectacular slopes in the Dolomites. This includes a horse-drawn carriage that pulls skiers along the flat section from the Capanna Alpina to Armentarola.
The Ampezzo Dolomites are an area with many possibilities. To ensure you don't miss out on the best, a mountain guide can be of valuable assistance and help you select the perfect tours based on your wishes and requirements.
