Ratschings - Ibex Klettersteig (C): A really beautiful via ferrata with a short approach, close to the valley floor of Ratschings, offering several variants and possible combinations. There is a slightly easier children’s via ferrata (B/C) as well as the considerably longer main via ferrata, which guarantees the complete via ferrata experience.
Exposed passages, narrow rock ledges and spots where you really have to get stuck in now and then make this truly excellent via ferrata an absolute must for mountaineers who love climbing. By the way, the name Ibex is no coincidence: it refers to the Alpine ibex, which is at home in the mountains surrounding Innerratschings.
The Ibex Klettersteig in Ratschings was built in summer 2024. The route runs through the slabby gneiss of the Central Alps and was designed to need as few artificial aids as possible.

Day tour: Ibex Klettersteig
Once we arrive at the car park in Ratschings, we sort out our equipment, and after a short approach we have already reached the start of the Ibex Klettersteig. There we put on our gear and set off on this superb via ferrata. Once we are in the thick of it, there are no more escape routes – except right at the start – and we enjoy this beautiful via ferrata adventure close to the valley to the full. Memorable sections and traverses along narrow ledges are at times reminiscent of the great via ferrata classics in the Brenta. Either way, look forward to a great day on the steel cables high above Ratschings.

Is the Ibex Klettersteig suitable for beginners?
The main via ferrata is graded C and is aimed at sure-footed climbers with a head for heights and some via ferrata experience. If you prefer something a little easier, there is also a children’s via ferrata on site, graded B/C.
How long is the tour on the Ibex Klettersteig?
You should allow around 3 hours for the whole tour. The approach is short, plus about 350 vertical metres of ascent and descent. This makes the tour ideal as a compact day tour in Ratschings.
What do I need to bring for the via ferrata?
Above all, you need suitable mountain boots and clothing for the day. You will receive the exact packing list with the confirmation email. You can rent a via ferrata set, harness and helmet from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
