A varied via ferrata high above Ratschings with a short approach, slabby rock and several exciting variants.

Ratschings - Ibex Klettersteig (C): A very beautiful via ferrata with a short approach, close to the valley floor of Ratschings, offering several variants and combination options. There is also a somewhat easier children’s via ferrata (B/C) as well as the significantly longer main via ferrata, which guarantees a complete via ferrata experience.
Exposed sections, narrow rock ledges and places where you really have to pull hard at times make this truly successful via ferrata an absolute must for climbing-enthusiast mountaineers. The name Ibex, by the way, is no coincidence: it refers to the Alpine ibex, which is native to the surrounding mountain regions of Innerratschings.
The Ibex Klettersteig in Ratschings was built in summer 2024. The route runs through slabby gneiss of the Central Alps and was designed to use as few artificial aids as possible.

Day tour: Ibex Klettersteig
Once we arrive at the car park in Ratschings, we sort our equipment and after a short approach we already reach the start of the Ibex Klettersteig. There we put on our gear and head into this great via ferrata. Once in the thick of it, there are no more escape exits – apart from right at the beginning – and we enjoy this beautiful via ferrata adventure close to the valley to the full. Memorable sections and traverses on narrow ledges are at times reminiscent of great via ferrata classics in the Brenta. In any case, look forward to a wonderful day on the steel cables high above Ratschings.

Is the Ibex Klettersteig suitable for beginners as well?
The main via ferrata is graded C and is aimed at sure-footed, head-for-heights mountaineers with some via ferrata experience. Those looking for something easier will also find a children’s via ferrata on site in the B/C range.
How long is the tour on the Ibex Klettersteig?
You should allow around 3 hours for the entire tour. The approach is short, with about 350 metres of ascent and descent. This makes the tour well suited as a compact day tour in Ratschings.
What do I need to bring for the via ferrata?
Most important are suitable mountain boots and clothing for the day. You will receive the exact packing list in the confirmation email. Via ferrata set, harness and helmet can be hired from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
