ABOUT THE TOUR

A night under the open sky in the mountains of South Tyrol – sometimes luxury could hardly be simpler.
2 days

Spending the night in the mountains: South Tyrol has been raising the bar for many years with some of the most beautiful and modern luxury hotels. The number of 5-star addresses keeps growing, yet the finest of them all is our million-star hotel, which has always existed: a night in the mountains under the open sky.

Combined with a beautiful mountain tour, we head to one of the many wonderful spots in the mountains of South Tyrol. We bring our own dinner and prepare it ourselves. For sleeping, we carry a sleeping bag, bivy sack and sleeping mat – and for unexpected rain, a tent for emergencies. In return, we will experience a night sky that many people will never see in their lifetime.

Thanks to the very low population density in South Tyrol by European standards, light pollution is minimal, the mountain air is clear, and the view into the universe, the Milky Way and endless stars is unobstructed. With a bit of luck, we may even catch a shooting star or two.

This tour calls for a little spirit of adventure and the motivation to carry a somewhat heavier rucksack now and then. In return, it becomes an experience that also suits the whole family and stays with you for a long time.

PROGRAM

Day 1: Ascent and bivouac
We meet in the early afternoon at the starting point for our mountain tour and then ascend over the course of the afternoon – depending on the objective we have chosen. Once at our destination, we settle in, prepare a tasty evening meal and set up our sleeping spots. By the campfire, of course only if the wildfire risk allows it, we let the evening wind down with exciting and funny stories from life before slipping into our sleeping bags. If it starts to rain during the night, we also have a tent with us as a shelter in case of emergency.

Day 2: Morning in the mountains
After a night under the open sky, we ease into the day, enjoy the special morning atmosphere in the mountains of South Tyrol, and after breakfast begin our descent again. One of our main aims on this tour is to pass on a love of nature and a respectful approach to a sensitive mountain ecosystem. There are few experiences more beautiful and more intense than spending a night outdoors in nature under the open sky. At the same time, it is important to remember that we are only guests there for a short while, and that we leave these places clean and without a trace.

Info: On this tour, we follow a few simple principles: no rubbish is left behind, campfires only when they are permitted and make sense, we use only deadwood, bivouac in suitable places, and treat water, soil and plants with respect. All things that work perfectly well with ordinary common sense – and that is exactly how it should be.

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - (FAQs)

Who is this bivouac tour suitable for?
The tour is suitable for anyone who feels like mountains, a night outdoors and a bit of adventure. What matters most are motivation and the willingness to carry a slightly heavier rucksack. Depending on the objective, the tour can also work well for families.

What do I need to bring for the overnight stay?
The detailed packing list will come with the confirmation email. The most important things are a warm sleeping bag and suitable clothing for the evening in the mountains. If anything is missing, equipment can be hired from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.

Is a campfire always possible on the tour?
No, we only light a campfire if conditions allow and there is no wildfire risk. If it is not appropriate, the evening will still be cosy – with good food, stories and the starry sky above us.
