A night under the open sky in the mountains of South Tyrol – sometimes luxury really couldn't be simpler.

Spending the night in the mountains: for many years, South Tyrol has been adding ever more beautiful and modern luxury hotels. The number of 5-star addresses keeps growing, yet the finest of them all is our million-star hotel, which has always been there: a night in the mountains under the open sky.
Combined with a beautiful mountain tour, we head to one of the many wonderful spots in the mountains of South Tyrol. We bring our own dinner and cook it ourselves. For sleeping, we carry a sleeping bag, bivvy bag and sleeping mat – and, in case of unexpected rain, a tent for emergencies. Along the way, we will experience a starry sky that many people never see in their lifetime.
Thanks to the very sparse population of South Tyrol by European standards, light pollution is low, the mountain air is clear and the view into the universe – the Milky Way and countless stars – is wide open. With a bit of luck, we may even spot a shooting star or two.
This tour calls for a little spirit of adventure and the motivation to carry a somewhat heavier rucksack. Then it becomes an experience that is also suitable for the whole family and will stay with you for a long time.

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Ascent and bivouac
We meet in the early afternoon at the starting point of our mountain tour and then, depending on the destination we have chosen, make our way up over the course of the afternoon. Once we arrive, we make ourselves comfortable, prepare a tasty supper and set up our sleeping spots. Around the campfire – of course only if the forest-fire risk allows – we round off the evening with exciting and funny stories from life before settling into our sleeping bags. Should it start to rain during the night, we also carry a tent to retreat to in an emergency.

Day 2: Morning in the mountains
After our night under the open sky, we ease into the day, enjoy the special morning atmosphere in the mountains of South Tyrol and, after breakfast, set off on the descent. One thing that matters greatly to us on this tour is passing on a love of nature and a respectful approach to the sensitive mountain ecosystem. There are few experiences more beautiful and intense than spending the night outdoors under the open sky. At the same time, we should be aware that we are only guests there for a short while and must leave these places clean and without a trace.
Info: On this tour we follow a few simple principles: we leave no rubbish behind, light a campfire only when it is permitted and sensible, use only deadwood, bivouac in suitable places and treat water, soil and plants with respect. All things that work perfectly well with plain common sense – and that is exactly how it should be.
Any changes to the programme that may become necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, availability of accommodation, etc.) are always made in consultation with the participants.

Who is this bivouac tour suitable for?
The tour is suitable for anyone who fancies the mountains, a night outdoors and a bit of adventure. Above all, what matters is motivation and a willingness to carry a slightly heavier rucksack. Depending on the destination, the tour can also be a good fit for families.
What do I need to bring for the night?
You will receive the detailed packing list with the confirmation email. Above all, you need a warm sleeping bag and suitable clothing for the evening in the mountains. If anything is missing, you can rent equipment from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
Is a campfire always possible on this tour?
No, we only light a campfire when conditions allow and there is no risk of forest fire. If it is not possible, the evening will still be cosy – with good food, stories and the starry sky above us.
