ABOUT THE TOUR
Reddish porphyry, short approaches and enjoyable pitches above the Bolzano basin – a climbing day that almost feels a little like Utah.
1 day
Plaisir climbing on Bolzano porphyry: Above Bolzano, numerous enjoyable multi-pitch routes have been developed in recent years. Climbing on the reddish porphyry in the Bolzano basin almost recalls climbing routes in Utah and is another highlight in South Tyrol’s diverse rock and climbing landscape.
The routes are very well protected, reached via short approaches, and lie on the sunny side. With an ideal length of 6–8 pitches per route, we can comfortably climb 1 route or even 2 routes. The beautiful view over the entire capital of South Tyrol provides perfect conditions for a successful day of climbing. Depending on ability, conditions and motivation, we choose the right line – that is exactly what makes this day on the porphyry so relaxed and varied.

PROGRAM
Day tour: Climbing on porphyry
At the meeting point, we will briefly check our equipment and then walk to the starts of the routes, in some cases, for example at the Pfattner Wände. At the base of the route, we put on our gear and gain height pitch by pitch with enjoyable climbing. The views over the Bolzano basin and the entire Unterland are truly գեղեցիկ and get even better from one pitch to the next.
Thanks to the very low altitude above sea level and the south-facing walls, climbing here is possible in almost ideal conditions for most of the year. Only in summer is it often too hot here – then it is better to head for the higher walls of the Dolomites. Depending on the tour and route choice, we climb one or even two well-protected multi-pitch routes – with no rush at all, more a climbing day for connoisseurs than for stopwatch fans.
Afterwards, you can stop at the inn by the car park for a drink or treat your palate to local delicacies and regional specialities. A perfect climbing day for connoisseurs.
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
