ABOUT THE TOUR

On Torre Wundt, the Mazzorana awaits: a truly beautiful Dolomites climb in the quieter corner of the Cadinigruppe.
Difficulty IV · 5.5 h · Cadinigruppe

The Cadinigruppe is a true paradise for alpine climbers. The nearby Tre Cime di Lavaredo have a positive effect on this range, ensuring that up here – high above Misurina – relatively few climbers are about. Yet there are wonderful climbing routes here, such as the Mazzorana on Torre Wundt.

That is exactly what gives this tour its appeal: you are climbing in the Dolomites, but often in much quieter surroundings than in the most famous areas. The route itself is a classic chimney climb and has precisely that distinctive character which you either find exciting straight away or come to love completely by the end of the day. If you enjoy alpine terrain, positive rock, and a line with real character, this is exactly the right place for you.

PROGRAM

Day 1: Mazzorana on Torre Wundt
We meet in Landro – the exact time and place will be arranged later – and drive together towards Misurina and on to the car park for the approach trail to Rifugio Fonda Savio. At the car park we do a short gear check and then set off towards the start of the route.

The approach into the Cadini takes about an hour and is truly spectacular scenically. Not only the panorama, but also the fact that this area is far less busy than the nearby Tre Cime di Lavaredo, makes the approach time pass in no time.

The choice of climbing routes in the Cadini is wide, ranging from short enjoyable climbs to major classics and longer routes. The Mazzorana proposed here may not lead to the highest tower, but definitely to one of the most striking around Rifugio Fonda Savio.

This chimney climbing, probably found in this form only in the Dolomites, is among the finest routes of its kind. Steep and consistently grade IV, it climbs to the summit in 7 pitches. All the while, you are constantly on excellent holds and wondering how something so spectacular can rise upward in such moderate difficulties. This will definitely be a climbing day you will not forget in a hurry.
Total time: 5.5 h | ↑ 650 m ascent | ↓ 650 m descent | Difficulty: IV

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
