ABOUT THE TOUR

Castor and Pollux - Normal Route: The twin peaks of Castor and Pollux are often climbed in combination. They lie between the Breithorn massif and the Liskamm on the border between Italy and Switzerland. Thanks to the cable car up to the Klein Matterhorn, the arduous climb from the valley is avoided and you can immerse yourself directly in this fascinating glacial world. While the summit station and the summit are only 700 meters in altitude, there is still a considerable distance to cover. Some challenging sections, combined with the high altitude and enormous crevasse zones, are good reasons for inexperienced mountaineers to enlist the expertise of a mountain guide. This allows you to approach the summit much more relaxed and enjoy the unique panorama in which you are moving far more fully. Two four-thousand-meter peaks whose ascent is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience, one that will linger with fond memories for a long time to come.

PROGRAM

Day 1: Pollux
We meet at 7:00 a.m. at the valley station of the Matterhorn Express. After a quick gear check, we head to the valley station of the cable car and purchase a ticket for Klein Matterhorn. The Matterhorn Express takes you comfortably up to 3,883 meters in just under 40 minutes. The cable car ride itself is spectacular and unique in this form. Once we arrive at the mountain station, we finally venture out into the beautiful world of glaciers. We descend to the Breithorn plateau and traverse the impressive glaciers below the Breithorn peaks towards the east. We reach the Schwarztorscharte and head to the southwest ridge of Pollux. A rocky ridge leads us to the summit with easy and challenging climbing. After enjoying the summit panorama, which encompasses the entire prominence of the Valais Alps, we descend to the Rifugio Guide della Val d'Ayas, where we will spend the night.

Day 2: Castor
The next morning, the second summit of these twin peaks is on the agenda. After a leisurely breakfast, we set off toward the Zwillingsjoch. Via the western flank, we reach the 4,225-meter-high Castor. The return route takes us back down to the Zwillingsjoch and beneath the Breithorn peaks back to the Klein Matterhorn mountain station. Overall, it's an enjoyable and, thanks to the magnificent panorama of the surrounding peaks, an impressive high-altitude tour that has a lot to offer for beginners in the world of the four-thousand-meter peaks.

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
