The Fünffingerspitze – Daumenkante: Thanks to the gondola up to the Langkofelscharte, the approach is pleasantly short for one of the most beautiful and spectacular climbing routes in the Dolomites at this grade.
That is exactly what makes this tour so appealing: you reach the start quickly and are still immediately in the middle of a real alpine climb. The route follows the distinctive thumb of the Fünffingerspitze in a logical line and offers airy passages, solid rock, and exactly the kind of exposure that draws people to climbs like this. No endless slog, just straight to the point – that is what makes the Daumenkante especially good.

Day tour: Daumenkante
We meet at the Sellajochhaus, a little below the Sella Pass, at the valley station of the cable car, which takes us comfortably up to the Toni Demetz Hut. Our summit, the striking thumb of the Fünffingerspitze, is already standing impressively in front of us. From the hut, we reach the start of our climb in just a few minutes.
A day with little wind and, if possible, warm temperatures is essential, as this exposed ridge can otherwise become uncomfortable very quickly. If the conditions are right, an enjoyable climb on one of the most spectacular routes in this grade awaits us. The Daumenkante offers fine, logical climbing on a magnificent line and exactly the right amount of air beneath your feet.
From the summit we abseil into the notch between the thumb and index finger and descend via the normal route of the Fünffingerspitze back to the Toni Demetz Hut. Afterwards, we take the cable car back down to the car park.

Info: Without the cable car, the approach is about 2 h longer with an additional 500 m of ascent.
