ABOUT THE TOUR

The Stüdlgrat on the Großglockner is without a doubt one of the most beautiful ridges in the entire Alps. A stairway to heaven that leads to Austria's highest peak with enjoyable climbing on the best rock. Climbing sections up to III+ are to be tackled, all in an environment that could hardly be more beautiful. We climb on the sunny side of the Großglockner, high above the glaciers. After reaching the summit and enjoying the phenomenal panorama of the surrounding peaks of the Hohe Tauern and far beyond, we will descend via the normal route. This makes this tour an unforgettable and diverse traverse that will be a very special highlight in every mountaineer's tour book.

PROGRAM

Day 1: Ascent to the Stüdlhütte
We meet at the large parking lot at the Lucknerhaus Inn at 1,920 meters above sea level. Alternatively, we can arrange a different meeting point and start the journey to Kals together, the starting point. After a quick gear check, we'll take a leisurely 2 to 3-hour climb to the Stüdlhütte (approx. 800 meters elevation gain).

Day 2: Großglockner - Stüdlgrat
The next morning, our alarm will ring early from our sleeping bags. After breakfast, we'll leave the hut by the light of our headlamps and, crossing the glaciers of the Teischnitzkees, reach the start of the Stüdlgrat and the beginning of the climb in just under 2 hours. We'll ascend toward the summit through enjoyable terrain, alternating between climbing and easier walking sections. The higher we climb, the more breathtaking the views become. Approximately 5-6 hours after leaving the Stüdlhütte, we'll reach the summit of the Großglockner. There is enough time here to enjoy the fantastic panorama before we start the descent via the normal route, past the Adlersruhe and on to our starting point at the Stüdlhütte and back to the car park.

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
