The “Touring & Training Advanced” avalanche course runs over 2.5 days and is ideal for ski tourers and freeriders who are already familiar with their avalanche emergency equipment, have gained their first experience away from the pistes, and want to deepen their basic knowledge. You will learn to independently choose and plan a tour to suit the group and the conditions. During the tour, the focus is on identifying potential hazard zones in the terrain, assessing them, and evaluating the risk. You will practise making the right decisions from this and taking appropriate measures. Step by step, this will introduce you to independent and self-responsible ski touring. The course is designed with a strong practical focus and thrives on not only discussing the content, but applying it directly outdoors. That is exactly what makes the difference: not just knowing what should be done, but actually putting it into practice in the terrain.

✧ Intensive avalanche transceiver search training and behaviour in the event of an avalanche accident under demanding, realistic conditions

PROGRAM
Day 1: Fundamentals and planning
We meet at the agreed meeting point and on the first day focus mainly on equipment, revising the fundamentals, as well as new developments or possible schools of thought. Practising avalanche transceiver search and companion rescue, as well as taking a look into the snowpack for better understanding, are also an important part of the day. Afterwards, we head somewhere warm – a bar, hotel, or accommodation – and devote ourselves to the topic of tour planning.
Day 2: Training in the terrain
In this intensive avalanche course, the focus is on the complete process for independently carried out ski tours. Together, we work through everything – from tour planning with the selection of the right tour for the currently prevailing conditions to the full execution. On the tours themselves, we take the time to discuss everything we see in the terrain and everything that is of interest, and we also incorporate various exercises. The tours are deliberately not chosen to be too long so that the focus remains on the training aspect and we can pass on as much as possible about ski touring and avalanche awareness. In the evening, we review the day and discuss where our expectations from planning at home matched what we actually experienced on the tour – and where there were differences.
Day 3: Tour or practical training
The final day also takes place outdoors in the terrain. Whether we do a longer tour or take more time to practise again is decided together and adapted to the wishes of the group. In the early afternoon, an intensive course comes to an end, with a great deal of practical input and wonderful days out in the snow, during which we have worked intensively on our knowledge of avalanches, snow mechanics, tour planning, and group dynamics – and will in future travel a little more safely on ski tours.
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.

Who is the Advanced course suitable for?
The course is aimed at ski tourers and freeriders who have already gained initial experience away from the pistes and are familiar with their emergency equipment. If you would like to deepen your knowledge and better assess decisions in the terrain, this course is an excellent fit.
What is the main focus of the course?
The main focus is on tour planning, recognising hazard zones in the terrain, risk assessment, and lots of practical training outdoors. This is complemented by avalanche transceiver search, companion rescue, and a shared review of decisions made during the tour.
What equipment do I need?
You will receive the detailed packing list with the confirmation email. Important items are, of course, your ski touring equipment and emergency equipment. If you are missing anything, there is a free loan option for the latest ORTOVOX emergency equipment.
