PROGRAM
Day 1:
Content: Companion Rescue and Avalanche Awareness
We will meet at the agreed meeting point and conduct a brief equipment check. After a few brief explanations, we will warm up with a short ascent, after which we will begin the topic of companion rescue. On this day, we will primarily practice avalanche search and probing, and in the afternoon we will head to a warmer place (bar, hotel, etc.). There, we will receive a presentation on avalanche awareness and how to apply this knowledge to the terrain. Afterwards, we will plan a tour together for the following day and learn what to consider when planning a tour.
Day 2:
Content: Short Ski Tour and Practical Exercises
The next day, we will go on a short ski tour, stopping frequently along the way to see how we can apply what we learned the previous day to the terrain and what decisions we need to make. Along the way, we will take a look at the snowpack using a snow profile, examine the snowpack structure, and perform an ECT. This will help us understand snow mechanics and how avalanches form in the first place. We'll learn what important insights we can gain from this and where the limits of the informative value of snow profiles lie. We'll learn about track making and proper behavior during ascents and descents in the terrain.
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
