Two days in which you don't just hear about avalanche knowledge – you truly understand it out in the snow.

In the "Tour & Training Basic" avalanche course, under the guidance of our state-certified mountain guides, you will learn not only how to use avalanche emergency equipment so you can carry out a companion rescue in an emergency, but also the fundamentals of sensible tour planning and how to apply it in the terrain. The second day is a full touring day out in the snow. Here, the findings from the tour planning are checked and put to sensible use. You will gain your first insights into route finding and track setting, recognising and assessing danger spots based on the prevailing conditions, and applying decision-making strategies.

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Theory and avalanche rescue training
On the first day, we focus mainly on the basics. What do you take on a ski tour – and why? This includes equipment information with lots of helpful tips and hacks that we as mountain guides have discovered and refined on countless tours, for ourselves, from colleagues or elsewhere. We also cover how to pack your rucksack and some important information on carefully planning a ski tour. After this short introduction in the warm, we head out into the terrain. Now everyone gets hands-on, gets to know their own emergency equipment and, above all, learns how to use it to carry out an effective companion rescue in the event of an avalanche. To do this, we set up a scenario in which all course participants can practise and try things out extensively. Afterwards, we plan a ski tour together for the second day of the course.
Day 2: Ski tour planned together
We are just as curious as you to see where the tour we have planned together will take us on the second day. Today it's your turn: group check, navigation, track setting, correctly assessing the current avalanche situation, recognising warning signs, taking measures on the ascent and descent, using the terrain and avoiding traps – and much more. We mountain guides give you plenty of situation-specific input and share our thoughts, arguments and experience with you. Here, too, there are lots of small tips and suggestions for improvement. It's about making decisions and discussing them as a group. We can take a look into the snowpack, dig a snow profile, carry out stability tests or concentrate on small improvements in your deep-snow ski technique. Whatever interests you, we take it up on this day so that you can take home as much as possible.
Any changes to the programme that may become necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, availability of accommodation, etc.) are always made in consultation with the participants.

Who is the Tour and Training Basic avalanche course for?
The course is aimed at beginners and anyone who wants to build a solid foundation in avalanche knowledge, tour planning and behaviour in winter terrain. You don't need any prior knowledge of the course content, but it helps if you generally feel comfortable on skis off-piste.
What exactly do we do on the second day of the course?
On the second day, we put what we have learned into practice on a ski tour we plan together. The focus is on track setting, navigation, assessing the situation on the spot and making decisions as a group. Depending on conditions, we also look at the snowpack, small technique topics or specific terrain situations.
What equipment do I need to bring?
You will receive the exact packing list with the confirmation email. The essentials are, of course, your ski touring equipment and personal clothing. Emergency equipment can usually be rented for a small wear-and-tear fee.
