PROGRAM
Day 1: Proper Use of Emergency Equipment
On the first day, we'll focus primarily on the basics. What to take on a ski tour (and why), great equipment information with many helpful tips and tricks that we, as mountain guides, have discovered and optimized on numerous tours for ourselves, colleagues, and others, how to pack your backpack, and some important information on meticulous ski tour planning. After this brief introduction indoors, we'll head out into the backcountry. Now everyone can get hands-on experience and familiarize themselves with their own emergency equipment and, above all, learn how to use it to carry out an effective companion rescue in the event of an avalanche. We'll set up a scenario where all course participants can practice and experiment extensively. Afterward, we'll plan a ski tour together for the second day of the course.
Day 2: Short Ski Tour and Practical Exercises
We're also excited to see where the tour we'll plan together with you will take us on the second day. Today, it's your turn to take the lead. Group check, orientation, route setting, correctly assessing the current avalanche situation, recognizing warning signs, taking measures on the ascent and descent, utilizing the terrain and avoiding falls, and much more. We mountain guides will provide you with plenty of situation-specific input and share our considerations, arguments, and experiences with you. Here, too, there will be many small tips and suggestions for improvement. Decisions need to be made and discussed within the group. We can examine the snowpack, dig a snow profile, conduct stability tests, or focus on small improvements to skiing technique for deep powder skiing. Whatever interests you, we will address on this day so that you get the most out of it.
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
