The Pichl route on the Langkofel is a long, demanding climbing route through the north face. 27 pitches, 1,300 metres of climbing and a long, complicated descent await. That is exactly what makes this tour so appealing: you are not simply climbing a beautiful line, but are on a true alpine undertaking that demands stamina, concentration and fast, clean climbing at the required grade.
Anyone who takes on the Langkofel north face gets a great Dolomites classic with character. The route is long, varied and serious. The long descent via the normal route is naturally part of it. A great experience for everyone who takes up this challenge and is looking for a long alpine route in the Dolomites.

PROGRAMME
Day tour: Pichl route
Because of the length of this tour, we will arrange a fairly early meeting time at the car park of the Sellajochhaus, just below the Sella Pass. Still by the light of our headlamps, we hike towards the Comici Hut and branch off shortly before it towards the north face of the Langkofel. With the first daylight, we start up the Pichl route, 27 pitches in total.
We will try to climb the pitches swiftly so that we have enough time for the long and demanding descent via the normal route of the Langkofel. Overall, this tour is a very long traverse, climbing one of the longest faces in the Dolomites and then descending one of the most difficult normal routes of any Dolomites three-thousander. Full concentration is required throughout the day.
Of course, this tour can only be done in absolutely stable weather. If everything comes together on the day, the Pichl route is a real highlight in the tour log of every alpine climber and Dolomites lover.

Who is the Pichl route on the Langkofel suitable for?
The tour is aimed at experienced alpine climbers who feel at home on long, alpine terrain. As well as solid climbing experience, you above all need stamina, concentration and a love of a truly long undertaking with a demanding descent.
How strenuous is the descent?
The descent via the normal route of the Langkofel is an essential part of the tour and still demands your full attention after the climbing. That is exactly why a brisk, well-paced day is especially important here.
What equipment do I need to bring?
You will receive the detailed packing list with the confirmation email. Most important are suitable mountain boots and clothing suitable for climbing. Technical equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
