ABOUT THE TOUR
Obergabelhorn - Arbengrat: The Arbengart on the Obergabelhorn can be considered one of the great classics in the Western Alps due to its impressive rock quality and exhilarating ridge climbing. When you enjoy the enjoyable stretches on the ridge in the morning sun, you'll understand why the ridge is so popular and undoubtedly belongs in every tour guide, where it's one of the absolute highlights. However, the summit of the Obergabelhorn requires not only the enjoyable rock section but also skilled crampon technique on the steep firn sections, as well as a long approach and the option of either spending the night in a bivouac and shortening the tour the next day, or opting for the comfort of the Schönbielhütte and a longer tour. Either way, arriving at the Rothornhütte will mark the completion of a fantastic Western Alps tour that you won't soon forget.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Approach to Arbenbiwak
We meet in Zermatt at the train station and walk together to the valley station of the cable car to Schwarzsee (4 hours to the bivouac). Alternatively, the entire approach to Arbenbiwak can be tackled on foot. This takes approximately 5-6 hours.
Day 2: Arbenbiwak - Obergabelhorn - Wellenkuppe - Rothornhütte
The next morning, we set off early and head towards Arbengrat. The ridge itself offers wonderful climbing and a stunning sunrise. However, our tour is far from over once we reach the summit. We abseil from the Obergabelhorn and reach Wellenkuppe via a steep snow ridge and another rock tower. From there, we continue our descent through snow, rock, and finally a steep glacier towards the Rothornhütte.
Day 3: Rothornhütte - Zermatt
On the third day, we descend from the Rothornhütte to Zermatt.
Tip: Alternatively, the tour can be extended with other wonderful hikes up the Zinalrothorn starting from the Rothorn Hut. If you're interested, let me know when you enquire.
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
