A great Dolomites classic in the Sella Group with the Pisciaduhütte right at the exit.

Pisciadu via ferrata (C): The Pisciadu via ferrata, also known as the Via Ferrata Brigata Tridentina, is the quintessential Dolomites classic and probably the most popular via ferrata in the Dolomites. And there are good reasons for that: with no long approach, the first cable-protected passages begin just above the car park. The setting is beautiful, the climbing demanding, yet despite the steepness of the face the via ferrata runs through, it is never particularly difficult.
As if the beauty of the via ferrata were not enough, it offers special highlights such as a spectacular suspension bridge, the beautifully situated and staffed Pisciaduhütte at the exit with a mountain lake behind it, and the option of adding the Pisciadùspitze as a rewarding summit. Even the descent through Val Setus between imposing Dolomite walls is spectacular. Somewhat longer, but almost even more beautiful, is the second descent option through the Mittagstal.
The name Pisciadu, by the way, comes from the Ladin of the Gadertal and means waterfall – which fits rather well, as the route climbs right beside the water. A via ferrata classic that, not without reason, is even one of the most popular via ferratas worldwide.

Day tour: Pisciadu via ferrata
At the car park on the Grödner Joch we carry out a short equipment check and hand out any rental equipment needed. After a short approach from the car park we soon reach the first via ferrata sections on the initial wall. Here we put on harnesses and helmets and fit the via ferrata sets. This first wall has sections graded B – ideal for warming up. Anyone who doesn't yet feel entirely comfortable is additionally secured on the mountain guide's rope.
This is followed by a traverse to the left on a well-trodden path before, just before the Pisciadu waterfall, we enter the main part of the via ferrata. Always to the right of the waterfall, the route climbs a steep rock face up over the Exnerturm. On the steepest passages, which are even slightly overhanging, iron pegs make progress easier. Shortly before the exit, a suspension bridge spans the gorge between the Exnerturm and the Brunecker Turm. The last metres of the via ferrata are no longer difficult, and shortly after the exit we reach the beautifully situated Pisciaduhütte with the lake behind it.
After a well-earned break at the hut, we either head straight back to the car park through Val Setus, with a few more short cable-protected passages, or – if there is still strength and energy left – through the Mittagstal. The Pisciadu via ferrata is a great Dolomites classic for good reason. Even if it has become somewhat polished by the many ascents, the scenery is and remains a delight.

How difficult is the Pisciadu via ferrata?
The Pisciadu via ferrata is graded difficulty C and is one of the moderately difficult via ferratas. The route is demanding and steep in places, but technically well protected. For this tour you should be sure-footed and already have some via ferrata experience.
How long does the tour take and how many vertical metres are involved?
Allow around 5 hours in total for the guided day tour. It involves about 650 metres of ascent and 650 metres of descent. The starting point is the Grödner Joch. The approach to the start of the route is short.
What do I need to bring for the tour?
Above all, you need sturdy mountain boots and suitable clothing for a day in the Dolomites. You will receive the detailed packing list with the confirmation email. Technical equipment such as a harness, helmet or via ferrata set can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
