Pordoi - Maria Kante: A classic high above Pordoijoch. The Maria Kante leads directly to the highest point of Sass Pordoi - the descent is comfortably done by cable car.

The route is logical, impressive, and exactly the kind of climb you simply want to have done at least once. What makes it so appealing is the mix of a classic line, solid Dolomite rock, and finishing directly on the summit.
If you are looking for classic alpine climbing in the Dolomites, this is exactly the right place. And yes - the contrast is quite special: first moving through the wall, then up top among cable car tourists. Somehow, that is part of the charm of the tour.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Maria Kante
We meet in the car park directly at Pordoipass or alternatively in Klausen near the motorway entrance. After a short gear check, we ascend towards Pordoischarte before leaving the path to the left towards the start of our route. The apparent arête we climb can already be seen perfectly from below. In fact, however, most of the climbing is done more on the right-hand side of the face than directly on the arête itself.
The Maria Kante is an overall very beautiful and impressive route which, despite its steepness - as so often in the Dolomites - is surprisingly forgiving to climb. This quickly gives the tour its character: classic, airy, and never unnecessarily complicated. Once we reach the top of the route, we will hardly escape the curious looks of the cable car tourists. We often even have to pose for the odd photo. For many of these people, the vertical adventure we have just experienced is almost impossible to imagine.
To finish, we return comfortably to the pass by cable car.

Who is the Maria Kante suitable for?
The tour is suitable for sure-footed mountaineers with good climbing experience who want to experience a true Dolomites classic. The difficulties remain moderate, but the terrain is clearly alpine and the route has a character of its own.
How does the descent work?
The descent is conveniently done by cable car from Sass Pordoi back to the pass. This also makes the tour logistically pleasant, because after topping out we do not have to add a long descent on foot.
What should I bring for the tour?
Most important are suitable climbing shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. The detailed packing list will be sent with the confirmation email. Technical equipment can be hired from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
