Pordoi - Maria Kante: A classic high above the Pordoi Pass. The Maria Kante leads directly to the highest point of Sass Pordoi - the descent is a comfortable cable car ride.

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Maria Kante
We meet at the car park right on the Pordoi Pass or alternatively in Klausen at the motorway junction. After a quick gear check, we head up towards the Forcella Pordoi before leaving the path to the left towards the start of our route. The supposed arête we climb can be seen perfectly from below. In reality, though, most of the climbing is on the right-hand side of the face rather than directly on the arête.
The Maria Kante is a very beautiful and impressive route overall which, given its steepness - as so often in the Dolomites - is surprisingly forgiving to climb. The tour quickly reveals its character: classic, airy and never needlessly complicated. Once we top out, there's no escaping the curious looks of the cable car tourists. We often have to pose for the odd photo too. For many of these people, the vertical adventure we have just enjoyed is almost unimaginable.
To finish, we ride the cable car comfortably back down to the pass.

Who is the Maria Kante suitable for?
The tour is suitable for sure-footed mountaineers with good climbing experience who want to experience a true Dolomites classic. The difficulties remain moderate, but the terrain is clearly alpine and the route has a character all of its own.
How does the descent work?
The descent is a comfortable ride down by cable car from Sass Pordoi back to the pass. That's exactly what makes the tour so convenient logistically, as we don't have to tack on a long descent on foot after topping out.
What should I bring for the tour?
Above all, you'll need suitable climbing shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. The detailed packing list comes with the confirmation email. Technical equipment can be borrowed from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
