ABOUT THE TRIP

Morocco - Climbing Trip: The climbing trip to Morocco takes us into the heart of the Atlas Mountains and thus into the ancient cultures of the Berber peoples spread throughout North Africa. However, the term "Berber" is merely a collective term for a multitude of different tribes and ways of life. Our journey takes us to the Berbers, who have inhabited the Atlas Mountains since time immemorial and have built their livelihood here as shepherds. Incredible hospitality awaits us at Said's Gite d'Etape in Taghia, a village accessible only by a two-hour hike. A climber's dream awaits us up here: limestone cliffs up to 800 meters high, of the highest quality, with wonderful multi-pitch routes of all difficulty levels. Sport climbing will also be part of this unforgettable week, where the only thoughts will be about climbing – as cell phone reception is nonexistent up here.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Brilliant multi-pitch routes in the best reddish limestone
- Beautifully situated mountain village
- Wonderful people who welcome us with genuine and warm hospitality
- Fascinating insights into the ancient traditions and culture of the Berbers
- No internet, no cell phone reception: We just live for the next day and take everything as it comes
- The only thing we have to think about is which routes we want to climb

PROGRAM

Day 1: Arrival
We will either meet directly in Morocco at the airport in Marrakech or agree on a common meeting point from where we will travel to Morocco together – we will discuss this individually during the booking process. I will take care of all bookings and coordinate our flight times. Once we arrive in Marrakech, however, we will soon escape the hustle and bustle of the city and travel to Zaouiad Ahansal, the last village accessible by road. (Travel time approx. 4.5 hours). This is where we will spend our first night.

Day 2: Ascent to Taghia and First Climbing Tour
The next morning, a couple of hardworking four-legged friends with long ears will be waiting for us to help us carry our luggage the two-hour walk to Taghia. We follow the donkeys and reach Said's Gîte d'Etape, located in the heart of the beautiful Berber village. Here, although we will stay simply for the next few days, we will be pampered by Said and his family, so we won't want for anything. In the afternoon, we'll have our first contact with rock and climb a short route or get used to the rock in the sport climbing garden.

Days 3-7: Climbing around Taghia
From the third day onward, everything revolves around climbing. One dream route follows the next. We're only spoiled for choice as to which one we'd like to do. The weather comes as it comes; it's usually very pleasant anyway, and we couldn't change it even if we knew what the coming days would bring. It's truly liberating to completely forget about our phones for a few days and enjoy the nature, the people, and the dreamy ambiance of this wonderful place.

Day 8: Marrakech
After 6 days of climbing on the rough limestone, our skin reserves will be as depleted as our strength. But we'll leave Taghia and return to Marrakech overjoyed, with a backpack full of priceless memories. Here, we'll plunge into the world-famous market and marvel at the hustle and bustle, and soon we'll be haggling over every cent like the locals. There's also a festival here every day, and in the evenings, we'll mingle with the locals and toast to a wonderful week of climbing.

Day 9: Departure
The next day, it's time to say goodbye to a hospitable country where we were able to spend a few wonderful days of climbing.
