Between rough limestone and Berber culture, a climbing journey awaits in Taghia, where before long everything revolves around rock climbing.

Morocco - climbing trip: This climbing trip to Morocco takes us right into the heart of the Atlas Mountains and with them into the ancient cultures of the Berber peoples found across North Africa. However, the term Berber is only a collective name for a wide variety of different tribes and ways of life. Our journey brings us to Berbers who have long inhabited the mountains of the Atlas and built their livelihood here as shepherds.
We can look forward to incredible hospitality at Said's Gite d´Etape in Taghia, a village that can only be reached by a two-hour walk. Up here, every climber finds a dream setting: towering limestone walls of the finest quality and wonderful multi-pitch routes of every grade. There is also plenty of sport climbing during this week, when your thoughts revolve around nothing but climbing - because there is no mobile signal up here.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Arrival in Morocco
We either meet directly in Morocco at the airport in Marrakesh, or arrange a common meeting point from which we travel together to Morocco - we will discuss that individually when booking. We take care of all bookings and coordinate our flight times. Once we arrive in Marrakesh, we will soon leave the colourful bustle of the city behind and drive to Zaouiad Ahansal, the last village accessible by road. We will spend our first night here.
Day 2: Hike up to Taghia
The next morning, a few hard-working four-legged helpers with long ears will already be waiting for us to help carry our luggage on the two-hour walk to Taghia. We follow the donkeys and reach Said's Gite d´Etape, right in the middle of the Berber village. Over the coming days we will stay simply here, but Said and his family will look after us so warmly that we will want for nothing. In the afternoon we will also get our first touch of rock and either climb a short route or get used to the rock in the sport climbing area.
Day 3-7: Climbing around Taghia
From day 3 onward, everything truly revolves around climbing. One dream route lies next to the next. Only the pleasant dilemma of choosing which ones we would most like to climb remains. The weather will be what it will be, though it is usually very kind, and we could not change it anyway, even if we knew what the coming days would bring. It is almost liberating to forget your phone completely for a few days and simply enjoy the nature, the people and the atmosphere of this place. We climb on the rough limestone walls around Taghia, depending on mood, conditions and route choice.
Day 8: Return to Marrakesh
After these climbing days on rough limestone, our skin will be as used up as our strength. Yet we will leave Taghia overjoyed, with a rucksack full of priceless memories, hike down to Zaouiad Ahansal, and continue back to Marrakesh. Here we will plunge into the world-famous market and marvel at everything going on, soon haggling over every centime like the locals. There is also a festive atmosphere here every day, and in the evening we will join the crowds and raise a glass to a wonderful week of climbing.
Day 9: Departure
The next day, all that remains is to say goodbye to a hospitable country where we were able to spend a few wonderful climbing days.

Where do we stay during the trip?
We stay at Said's Gite d´Etape in Taghia. The accommodation is simple, but that is very much part of the experience here. In return, we can look forward to genuine hospitality and a place where everything quickly narrows down to what matters most: climbing, eating, sleeping, and climbing again.
What equipment do I need to bring?
You will receive the exact packing list with the confirmation email. Most important are your climbing shoes and comfortable clothing for the climbing days. Any missing equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
