Verdon is climbing on a grand stage: rough limestone, a deep gorge, and that special thrill when the only way back is up.
5 days · Difficulty depending on the objective and route choice
The Verdon Gorge in southern France is one of the best climbing areas in Europe. Since the 1970s, climbing history has been written in one of Europe’s largest canyons, 21 kilometres long and up to 700 metres deep.
Excellent rock quality and the unique fact that on many routes you first abseil down into the gorge from above and then climb back out make this jewel among climbing areas in the heart of Provence so special. There is often no escape downward at all. The only way back leads up. So you should be climbing solidly at the required grade if you want to take on the adventure of Verdon.
But there are also plenty of wonderful routes with a less serious character, perfectly suited to beginners and pleasure climbers, where you can still experience and enjoy that very special Verdon atmosphere, the beauty of the gorge, and the culinary highlights of southern France.

Requirements
- There are no prerequisites for sport climbing. It can also be organized as a sport climbing course directly in Verdon.
- If the group wants to go to Verdon for multi-pitch climbing, previous experience in multi-pitch climbing is required, as some rope teams climb independently. The mountain guide can climb with a maximum of two people on the rope.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Arrival in Verdon
The first day is devoted entirely to the journey to Verdon. After arriving, we settle into our accommodation. In the evening, over a shared meal, we let our ideas and plans for the coming climbing days take shape and put together a well-matched programme. This gives us time to talk through what you feel like doing and which kind of routes will suit the next few days best.
Day 2–4: Climbing in the gorge
The next three days are fully dedicated to our climbing objectives. Whether sport climbing, easy multi-pitch routes, or classic trad routes and alpine climbs that require placing your own protection: in Verdon there is an abundance of objectives. There is something for every climbing level and standard. Of course, we will not miss the experience of abseiling into the gorge from above. That is exactly what gives many routes here their distinctive character. We round off the evenings with French wine and delicious food.
Day 5: Departure
After four days on Verdon’s rough limestone, hands and fingertips would be due a first rest day anyway. We take the opportunity and say goodbye to Verdon – most likely with a promise to come back again very soon.
