Cadini – Sentiero Bonacossa
A wild high-level route through the jagged Cadini group. It is more of an alpine hike with scrambling sections than a classic via ferrata, but that is exactly what makes the Sentiero Bonacossa special

The Sentiero Bonacossa is a high-level trail with a few cable-protected sections on easy climbing passages and at the most exposed spots. It crosses the Cadini group south of the Three Peaks from south to north – a very wild range with countless spires and pinnacles.
More a demanding mountain hike with occasional scrambling passages than a via ferrata in the classic sense – but absolutely outstanding scenically. It is precisely this mix that makes it so appealing: lots of movement over rocky terrain, short protected sections again and again, and in between a trail that winds elegantly through the rugged mountain world. If you are looking for a continuously steep sport via ferrata, this is not the place for you. But if you are after alpine scenery and airy passages, you have come to exactly the right place.

PROGRAMME
Day tour: Through the Cadini
We meet at the chairlift valley station and, after a quick gear check, take the lift to save ourselves the hour-long ascent along the track and ski piste up to the Rifugio Col de Varda. The actual route begins as soon as we head north behind the hut and into the heart of the Cadini group.
We cross the Forcella de Misurina with its wooden steps and first fixed cables, then descend into the cirque of the Forcella di Neve. The trail continues over the Forcella del Diavolo and constantly up and down through this wild rocky landscape. We soon reach the Rifugio Fonda Savio. If you've had enough by this point, you can descend here and end the tour.
For everyone who wants to do the full Sentiero Bonacossa to the Rifugio Auronzo, things get a little more demanding from the hut onwards. This second part is the more alpine section of the tour: somewhat rougher and more exposed. The result is a long, varied south-to-north traverse through one of the most distinctive areas around the Three Peaks.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)
Is the Sentiero Bonacossa a real via ferrata?
Not in the classic sense. The Sentiero Bonacossa is more of an alpine high-level trail with some cable-protected passages and short scrambling sections. If you are sure-footed and feel at home in exposed terrain, the tour is usually a very good fit.
Can the tour be shortened along the way?
Yes. At the Rifugio Fonda Savio there is the option of ending the tour and descending. That way you can decide, depending on your form, the weather or how you feel, whether to continue along the full Sentiero Bonacossa to the Rifugio Auronzo.
What should I bring on the tour?
Above all, you need sturdy mountain boots and clothing suited to the weather. You will receive the detailed packing list with the confirmation email. Via ferrata equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
