ABOUT THE TOUR
A wild high-level traverse through the jagged Cadini Group – more of an alpine hike with short scrambling sections than a classic via ferrata, but that is exactly what makes the Sentiero Bonacossa so special.

The Sentiero Bonacossa is a high-level path with some fixed-cable sections on easy scrambling passages and at the most exposed points. It crosses the very wild Cadini Group, with its countless pinnacles and towers, south of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo from south to north.
More a demanding mountain hike with occasional scrambling than a via ferrata in the classic sense – but scenically absolutely outstanding. This combination is precisely what gives it its appeal: plenty of movement in rocky terrain, repeated short protected sections, and in between a path that winds elegantly through the rugged mountain world. If you are looking for a continuously steep sporting via ferrata, this is not the right place. If, on the other hand, you are after alpine scenery and airy passages, you are exactly right here.

PROGRAM
Day tour: Through the Cadini
We meet at the chairlift valley station and, after a short gear check, take the lift to save ourselves the hour-long ascent on the track and ski slope up to Rifugio Col de Varda. The actual route begins as soon as we head north behind the hut and make our way into the heart of the Cadini Group.
We go over Forcella de Misurina with wooden steps and the first fixed cables, then descend into the cirque of Forcella di Neve. The route continues over Forcella del Diavolo and through this wild rocky landscape in a constant up and down. Soon we reach Fonda Savio Hut. If needed, there is an option to descend here and end the tour.
For everyone who wants to complete the full Sentiero Bonacossa to Rifugio Auronzo, the route becomes a little more demanding from the hut onward. This second part is the more alpine section of the tour: a bit rougher and more exposed. In the end, it delivers a long, varied traverse from south to north through one of the most distinctive areas around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.

Is the Sentiero Bonacossa a proper via ferrata?
Not in the classic sense. The Sentiero Bonacossa is more of an alpine high-level route with individual fixed-cable passages and short scrambling sections. If you are sure-footed and feel comfortable in exposed terrain, the tour is usually a very good fit.
Can the tour be shortened on the way?
Yes. At Fonda Savio Hut there is the option to end the tour and descend. That way, depending on your energy, the weather or your mood, you can decide whether to continue on the full Sentiero Bonacossa to Rifugio Auronzo.
What should I bring for the tour?
Most important are sturdy mountain boots and clothing suited to the weather. You will receive the exact packing list with the confirmation email. Via ferrata equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear fee.
