Spring firn, vast glacier slopes and four days on skis of the kind you would happily stretch out longer in the southern Ortler Group.

The southern Ortler Group is a true spring classic on skis. We will let off steam on the firn slopes around Palon de la Mare, Monte Vioz, Punta San Matteo and many other dream ski peaks, while enjoying Italian cuisine and hospitality.
Our starting point is the Brancahütte, which will be our base for several days. From here, many options open up for varied ski mountaineering tours in the Forno basin, depending on conditions and the group.

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Approach to the Brancahütte
The meeting point is the paid car park at the Rifugio Ghiacciaio dei Forni at the head of the Valle dei Forni. After a short gear check at the car park, we set off for the Brancahütte, our base for the next few days. The approach is short and takes us straight into the high-alpine surroundings of the southern Ortler Group. Alternatively, a different meeting point can be arranged when booking in order to share a car.

Days 2-4: Ski mountaineering tours from the hut
The Brancahütte is an ideal base for numerous ski tours and ski mountaineering tours in this area. Let the landscape of the Forno basin surprise you with what it has to offer. Over the next few days, we will combine, traverse and climb several wonderful summits together. Depending on conditions, the group and the choice of route, various rewarding objectives in the southern Ortler Group are possible. In the end, we will come away richer for the great impressions and experiences of three strong ski touring days in a magnificent setting.

Who is this ski mountaineering week suitable for?
The tour is suitable for experienced ski tourers who feel at home on ski mountaineering tours graded WS to ZS and want to be out for several days in a row. Fitness for daily tours around the Brancahütte is important, as is confident skinning in high-alpine terrain.
What equipment do I need for the days around the Brancahütte?
First and foremost, you need suitable ski touring equipment and, depending on conditions, good ski crampons or crampons. The detailed packing list comes with the confirmation email. Any missing equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
Which summits do we climb on the three touring days?
We don't fix this rigidly in advance. Around the Brancahütte there are several rewarding objectives such as Palon de la Mare, Monte Vioz or Punta San Matteo. Which tours we actually do depends on conditions, the group and the choice of route – and that is exactly what makes these days so varied.
