Vajolet Towers – Delago arête
Over the bold Delagokante on the Vajolet Towers - a slender rock needle in the Rosengarten massif.

The Vajolet Towers stand like rock needles in the Rosengarten massif and are clearly visible even from Bolzano. It is one of the greatest classics of the Dolomites and a wonderfully exposed summit – all reached at moderate difficulty. The Delagoturm was first climbed solo by Hermann Delago on 17 September 1895. The first ascent of the Delagokante was made on 9 August 1911 by Giovanni Battista Piaz, Francesco Jori and Irma Glaser. Impressive achievements that you will wholeheartedly acknowledge when you are hanging in the exposed pitches of this tour yourself.

Evening before (recommended): Approach to the hut
Because of the long approach, I recommend spending the night at the Gartlhütte or at the slightly lower Vajolethütte. When you book, we will arrange a meeting point or hike up to the hut together the day before the planned tour.

Tour day: Climbing the Delagokante
After the approach we start the route: it is 10 minutes from the Gartlhütte and about 1 hour from the Vajolethütte. The very first pitches are pure climbing pleasure. Steep, on good holds, we climb right up to the arête.
Then follow the exposed pitches of the Delagokante towards the summit, with views down as far as Bolzano. The bold summit offers relatively little space on this slender needle. Afterwards, the superbly equipped abseil line brings us straight back to the start of the route. This tour is always a special experience for me too, as it was my very first alpine tour, which I was lucky enough to do at the age of thirteen. That experience sparked my passion for alpine climbing.

How demanding is the Delagokante?
The route is graded IV+ and follows a very exposed arête on the Delagoturm. If you already have solid climbing experience on rock and feel at home in alpine terrain, this is the route for you.
How does the tour day work?
Because of the long approach, I recommend hiking up to the Gartlhütte or the Vajolethütte the evening before. On the tour day we head to the start of the route and climb the Delagokante to the summit, then return via the abseil line. Allow around 3 hours for summit day from the Gartlhütte.
What do I need to bring for the tour?
You will receive the detailed packing list with the confirmation email. Above all, you need mountaineering boots and suitable clothing for the hut trip and the climbing day. Technical equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
