PROGRAM
Day 1: Sesto - Carducci Hut
The first stage of our 8-day tour through the Eastern Dolomites takes us from the Dolomitenhof through the Bacherntal Valley to the Zsigmondy Hut. We continue over the Forcella Giralba and beyond to the Rifugio Carducci.
4 hours – ↑ 1,000 meters in elevation gain – ↓ 200 meters in elevation gain – 8 km
Day 2: Carducci Hut - Rifugio Monte Agudo
On the second day, we leave the Sesto Dolomites once again and descend through the Val Giralba into the valley. We follow the road for a short distance and ascend on the opposite side of the valley via trail no. 6 to the Rifugio Monte Agudo.
5.5 hours – ↑ 750 meters elevation gain – ↓ 1,500 meters elevation gain – 12 km
Day 3: Rifugio Monte Agudo - Rifugio Chiggiato
Another technically less difficult stage follows, which takes us south of the Marmarole Group. On this stage, we first pass Rifugio Ciareido and Rifugio Boni, until we reach our accommodation for the next night at Rifugio Chiggiato in the afternoon.
6 hours – ↑ 850 meters elevation gain – ↓ 500 meters elevation gain – 14 km
Day 4: Rifugio Chiggiato - Bivacco Tiziano
Now things get considerably more challenging again. We head straight into the heart of the Marmarole Group. For the next two nights, we'll have to forgo the comfort of a serviced hut and spend the night in bivouacs. Our backpacks will be correspondingly heavy with water and food supplies. The stage along the Sentiero degli Alpini also requires absolute surefootedness, a head for heights, and climbing sections up to grade 1. This challenging stage concludes with the arrival of the Tiziano Bivacco.
5 hours – ↑ 900 meters of elevation gain – ↓ 500 meters of elevation gain – 6.5 km
Day 5: Tiziano Bivacco - Voltolina Bivacco
The second day in the Marmarole Group is no less demanding than the first. The route continues to be steep, exposed, and technically very demanding. The Strada Sanmarchi connects the Tiziano Bivacco with the Voltolina Bivacco, the destination of the 5th stage.
7 hours – ↑ 1,300 meters of elevation gain – ↓ 1,450 meters of elevation gain – 9 km
Day 5: Voltolina Bivacco - Rifugio Pietro Galassi
This day, too, requires full concentration, especially on the first part of the stage. However, once we climb around the Corno del Doge and reach the Val de San Vido, the terrain becomes somewhat easier again. We ascend to the Forcella Grande and beyond it to the Rifugio San Marco. Here, we will finally enjoy the comfort of a serviced hut and fortify ourselves for the last, shorter section of the day, up to the Forcella Piccola and beyond it down to the Rifugio Pietro Galassi.
6 hours – ↑ 1,200 meters of elevation gain - ↓ 1,200 meters of elevation gain – 10.5 km
Day 6: Rifugio Pietro Galassi - Rifugio Antelao
The penultimate day of this Dolomites High Trail takes us from the Rifugio Galassi past the north side of the Antelao and onto the Forcella del Ghiacciaio. Continuing via the Forcella Piria, we reach the Antelao Hut.
4.5 hours – 800 meters elevation gain – 1,000 meters elevation loss – 8 km
Day 7: Rifugio Antelao - Pieve di Cadore
Almost there: The final stage takes us without further difficulty from the Antelao Hut down to Pieve di Cadore, where a taxi will take us back to Sesto and our cars in the Fiscalina Valley.
2.5 hours – 900 meters elevation loss – 6 km
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
