THE MOUNTAIN
At 2,864 meters, Triglav is the highest peak in the Julian Alps and, as Slovenia's highest mountain, is one of the Seven Summits of the Alps. Its distinctive shape makes it visible from distances of over 100 kilometers. Its imposing north face, which towers above the Vrata Valley, is 1,500 meters high and over 3 kilometers wide. This makes it the longest wall in the Eastern Alps after the Watzmann East Face. The mountain holds special significance for Slovenia and is one of its national symbols. The mountain appears on both the national flag and Slovenia's 50-cent coins.

ABOUT THE TOUR
Triglav - Normal Route (Bambergerweg): The starting point for the ascent of Triglav is the Alpine Club hut Aljazev Dom on the north side of the massif. The Bambergerweg is simply magnificent in its scenery and offers plenty of variety with short via ferratas throughout. It first leads through the Vrata Valley to the Luknja Saddle and continues via via ferrata-like passages to the Hochkar below the summit structure. From the summit structure, a via ferrata leads to the highest point. The descent via the Pragerweg (or alternatively via the Tominskeweg) is also challenging and steep. Overall, an absolutely worthwhile tour in breathtaking scenery.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Ascent to Triglav and Descent to the Kredarica Hut
We meet early in the morning in the Vrata Valley, at the Aljazev Dom Hut. This is accessible by car via an unpaved gravel road. From here, we ascend together through the scenic Vrata Valley to the Luknja Saddle. We follow the Bamberg Trail, which repeatedly features via ferrata-like sections (B/C), toward the summit of Triglav. From Slovenia's highest point, we enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Julian Alps and the impressive cirques surrounding the summit. Afterwards, we descend via the via ferrata on the other side to the Kredarica Hut (A/B), where we will spend the night.
8 hours - 8.6 km - ↑ 1,950 meters - ↓ 430 meters
Day 2: Descent back to the valley via the Prager Trail
The next morning, we're in no hurry. We still have a long and steep descent ahead of us via the Pragerweg, but with rested legs we'll be able to tackle it without any problems.
Tip: Very fit mountaineers can also complete the tour in one day. If walking times of approximately 12 hours, 2,000 meters of elevation gain, and 15 kilometers in one day are no problem for you, you can submit a request and I'll make you an offer. However, it's much more relaxed and enjoyable over two days.
Tip: Very fit mountaineers can also complete the tour in one day.

The story of the first ascent
In 1777, the first attempt to reach the 2,864-meter-high summit of Triglav was made. Belsazar Hacquet, a famous naturalist, physicist, and world traveler, failed. A year later, Hacquet organized another group to reach the summit. The group, consisting of Lovrenc Willomitzer, Luka Korosec, Stefan Rozic, and Matija Kos, finally reached Slovenia's highest mountain for the first time without Hacquet on August 26, 1778.
