ABOUT THE TRAINING
Ortovox Safety Academy - Mountaineering Basics: Do you dream of exploring the breathtaking world of the mountains off the beaten track? Then our SAFETY ACADEMY basic course – MOUNTAINEERING Basics – is the perfect opportunity. The goal of the course is to introduce you to the elementary climbing techniques and movement forms you need for your alpine adventures. Starting with an understanding of alpine hazards, you will learn to recognize potential risks early on and respond to them effectively. We place particular emphasis on the selection and safe use of your equipment, including important knot-tying techniques that will support you in a variety of situations.
We will hone your surefootedness in difficult terrain so that you can move independently in the mountains. Walking and pedaling in pathless terrain, as well as crossing snowfields, are other focuses of our training. You will gain insights into the fundamentals of rock climbing and learn how to tackle simple climbing passages with mountaineering boots. Rock belaying techniques for challenging passages expand and complement the curriculum. Our SAFETY ACADEMY training courses provide the ideal foundation for independent alpine mountaineering and climbing on cable-secured trails.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Hut Approach, Equipment Knowledge, Knot Tying, Alpine Hazards and Environmental Influences
We'll meet at the agreed meeting point and, after a brief gear check, ascend to the hut where we'll be staying for the next few days. After a quick refreshment, we'll begin with the basics and first examine the equipment. We'll then learn the required knots and practice them extensively until we've mastered them. In the evening, we'll discuss alpine hazards and the environmental influences we can expect in the mountains.
Day 2: Foothold Training, Rope Techniques, Abseiling, Tour Planning
Today we're heading out into the terrain. We won't stray too far from the hut and will cover more basics. Foothold training: what do I need to pay attention to in order to be as safe as possible while also conserving energy in rough terrain. We'll learn simple rope techniques to be able to quickly secure ourselves somewhere, but also how to abseil if there's no other way forward. In the late afternoon, we'll sit down with a map and see how much important information we've already received. Other aspects of proper tour planning and preparation are also on the agenda. We will then plan the third day together: a practice tour, where we will try to incorporate the content of the previous two days.
Day 3: Practice Tour: Climbing with mountaineering boots on rock and firn, belaying techniques
Depending on what we have planned, we will do a group tour on the third day. The goal is for the participants to make their decisions as independently as possible, and the mountain guide will be available to offer advice at all times and, if necessary, intervene to correct any misjudgments.
The program and content are not set in stone and will be adapted as needed depending on the participants' level of knowledge and the local conditions (weather, terrain, conditions). If we are flexible, we can get the most out of these three days. =)
Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
