Ortovox Safety Academy - avalanche course Training Basic: The right equipment is a must in the mountains, but without sound knowledge of how to use it, you're helpless in an emergency. The Safety Academy avalanche course "Training Basic" is just the thing for beginners, but also for more experienced ski tourers who want to refresh their knowledge. In a compact format, you'll be given all the information you need on handling avalanche emergency equipment, along with the strategy for successful companion rescue. The focus is on the right response after an avalanche accident and intensive training in searching for buried victims, probing and quickly and efficiently digging out a buried person. The course is deliberately hands-on: first understand, then apply. So you don't just learn what to do in an emergency, you also practise each procedure directly in the terrain. That's exactly what makes the difference when it counts.

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Basics in the terrain
Today is all about the basics of ski touring. What do you take on a ski tour – and why? You'll get plenty of useful equipment information, tips and little hacks that we as mountain guides have discovered on countless tours, from colleagues or elsewhere, and sensibly refined over time. We'll also look at how to pack your rucksack and which points matter when carefully planning a ski tour. After this short introduction in the warm, we head out into the terrain. Now everyone gets hands-on, gets to know their own emergency equipment and, above all, learns how to use it to carry out effective companion rescue in the event of an avalanche. To do this, we set up a scenario in which all participants can practise and try things out extensively. The groups are deliberately kept small so that we can respond individually and specifically to your questions and to any additional topics that interest you beyond our programme.
Any changes to the programme that may become necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, availability of accommodation, etc.) are always made in consultation with the participants.

Who is the Training Basic avalanche course suitable for?
The course is ideal for beginners, but also for anyone who wants to refresh their knowledge before their next ski tour. You don't need much prior experience – what matters most is an interest in the topic and a willingness to practise the procedures hands-on.
What exactly will I learn on the course?
The course covers handling emergency equipment, the right response to an avalanche accident and practical companion rescue. This includes searching for buried victims, probing and efficient digging in a realistic practice scenario.
Can I borrow equipment?
Yes. You'll receive the detailed packing list with your confirmation email. If you're missing individual items such as an avalanche transceiver or probe, you can borrow the latest Ortovox emergency equipment free of charge.
