ABOUT THE TRAINING

A compact avalanche course for anyone who doesn’t just want to carry gear on a ski tour, but also truly wants to know how to use it in an emergency.
1 day

Ortovox Safety Academy - avalanche course Training Basic: The right equipment is essential in the mountains, but without sound knowledge of how to use it, you are helpless in an emergency. The Safety Academy avalanche course “Training Basic” is exactly right for beginners, but also for more experienced participants who want to refresh their knowledge. In a compact format, you will receive all the essential information on handling avalanche emergency equipment as well as the strategy for successful companion rescue. The focus is on the correct response after an avalanche accident and intensive training in victim search, probing, and the fast, efficient excavation of a buried person. The course is deliberately designed to be hands-on: first understand, then apply. This way, you not only learn what to do in an emergency, but also practise each step directly in the terrain. That is exactly what makes the difference when it matters.

PROGRAM

Day 1: Basics in the terrain
Today is all about the basics of ski touring. What do you take on a ski tour – and why? You will also get plenty of helpful equipment information, tips, and small hacks that we as mountain guides have discovered and use ourselves on numerous tours, through colleagues, or elsewhere, and have sensibly refined over time. We will also look at how to pack your rucksack and which points are important for the careful planning of a ski tour. After this short introduction indoors, we head out into the terrain. Now everyone gets hands-on, becomes familiar with their own emergency equipment, and above all learns how to use it in order to carry out effective companion rescue in the event of an avalanche. For this, we set up a scenario in which all course participants can practise and try things out extensively. The groups are deliberately kept small so that we can respond individually and specifically to your questions and to additional topics that interest you beyond our programme.

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
