ABOUT THE TOUR

Mönch and Jungfrau - Normal Route: Of the world-famous trio of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, the Mönch, at 4,110 meters, is the peak that can be reached with comparatively less technical difficulty. If you take the comfortable approach via the Jungfrau Railway through the Eiger massif, you'll find yourself standing at 3,466 meters on the Jungfraujoch without even having set foot on foot, and you'll feel as if you're in Asia. The remaining tour, away from the hustle and bustle, with a gain of just over 600 meters in altitude, is even more challenging. Especially if conditions are unfavorable and the rocks are icy, the difficulty increases dramatically. Steep firn sections alternate with icy ascents and challenging, exposed ridge climbing. However, secured throughout by rope, the ascent to this beautiful and panoramic peak is a mountaineering pleasure par excellence. The panorama from the summit stretches from the Finsteraarhorn, over the Eiger, Schreckhorn, Jungfrau, and Aletschhorn, as well as many other dream destinations for possible future alpine tours. After the descent, we make ourselves comfortable in the Mönchsjoch Hut and will tackle the Jungfrau the next day. We already had this peak constantly in sight during the tour to the Mönch. The difficulty is comparable to that of the Mönch, but the greater distance means the tour is definitely more physically demanding! At the summit, we enjoy the view of lush green meadows to the north and seemingly endless ice and rock landscapes to the south. After the descent, we take the Jungfraujoch cable car back to Grindelwald.

PROGRAM

Day 1: Arrival and Ascent to the Mönchsjoch Hut
We meet in the afternoon in Grindelwald Grund at the valley station of the "Eiger Express" cable car. After a quick equipment check, we'll purchase a ticket for this world-famous cable car and cogwheel train ride, which will take us directly through the Eiger and beneath the Mönch to the Jungfraujoch. This cable car ride alone is a unique experience and a great start to our actual summit tour. Arriving at the Jungfraujoch, we reach our destination for the day in less than an hour: the Mönchsjoch Hut. We'll settle in here for two nights.

Day 2: Mönch
After breakfast, the approach to the Mönch ridge is short. Before the large influx of summiteers arriving by cable car arrives, we'll ascend the southeast ridge, secured by a rope. The route climbs ever higher over several steep sections combined with rock, snow, and ice. The final part is a beautiful and often quite narrow snow ridge up to the 4,107-meter-high summit. A stunning panorama awaits us once we reach the top. We'll enjoy our summit bliss in peace and quiet before descending back to the Mönchsjoch Hut via the route we already know.

Day 3: Jungfrau
The previous day, we were able to admire today's summit goal in peace and quiet. It's a rarity and hardly surprising that we first face a descent from the Mönchsjoch Hut past the Jungfraujoch to the start of the climb. Once we've descended to the start of the climb, the ascent is a varied one. Scrambling sections on the rock, snow passages, steep traverses, and a challenging summit flank await us. The ascent is entertaining and varied. Once we reach the summit, we are treated to a breathtaking view, one that is truly rare: To the north, the descent is steep, and as far as the eye can see, we see lush green meadows, whereas to the south, we marvel at a high alpine landscape composed of rock and ice – what a contrast! Following the already familiar route, we then return to the Jungfraujoch and take a leisurely cogwheel train and cable car back to Grindelwald.

A wonderful combination of two majestic four-thousand-meter peaks, which, thanks to technical masterpieces, are significantly shorter than the surroundings would normally allow.

Any changes to the program that may be necessary for various reasons (weather, conditions, accommodation booking situation, etc.) will always be made in consultation with the participants.
