ABOUT THE TRIP

Sardinia - Selvaggio Blu Extreme: The extreme north-to-south version of the Selvaggio Blu along the east coast of Sardinia. Those who already know and have completed the classic Selvaggio will experience this beautiful stretch of coastline of the Golfo di Orosei in a completely new way and from a new perspective on this tour. Those who want to venture straight into the extreme version of the Selvaggio Blu without having experienced the classic route will be confronted with fantastic natural surroundings, alongside daily highlights such as numerous via ferrata and scrambling sections, as well as many aerial abseils directly onto Sardinia's most beautiful beaches. In between, it's all about finding the right path through the Sardinian maquis, following old shepherd's paths along adventurous passages, and reaching the individual "pastures" in this spectacular and intricate stretch of coast via original connections. Overnight stays under the stars on dreamy beaches, long evenings around the campfire, and a healthy dose of nature and adventure are naturally a must on this trek. An adventure for those who think they've already seen it all. 😉

PROGRAM

Day 1: Arrival and dinner together
In the afternoon, we will meet at our accommodation in Santa Maria Navarrese, where we will provide some information about the upcoming “Selvaggio Blu” trek from north to south. The packing list already contains lots of information on how to pack your bags and backpacks for the upcoming 6 days of touring. Together, we will do a quick check to make sure everything is ready and then stroll into the village for a leisurely dinner. Here, we will also get our first taste of the local Sardinian delicacies.

Day 2: Stage 1
In the morning, Franco brings us a delicious breakfast to fortify us for the first day of the tour. We then drive to the harbor with our belongings, drop off our luggage, which will be delivered to us daily, and are then taken by jeep to our starting point a good distance to the north. We begin our trek with a light daypack. Spectacular passages await us right from the first few kilometers, even though the first stage takes us from the Baunei mountains through impressive gorges to the sea. We can end the first day of the tour on the beach and soak up a good dose of Sardinia and Selvaggio Blu. A fish menu in the evening rounds off this start.

Day 3: Stage 2
The second stage takes us above the coastline, offering breathtaking views of the azure blue sea, whose colors are more reminiscent of the Caribbean than the Mediterranean. By now, we understand where Selvaggio Blu gets its name. Those who feel comfortable on the exposed via ferrata passages and spectacular abseils can enjoy the view all the more. Everyone else can immerse themselves in their own personal adventure. Although always well secured, it still takes a little courage at times to tackle the unforgettable passages and perhaps push your personal limits. Especially for those who are not 100% free from vertigo. As a reward, a first-class bivouac site awaits us in the evening at an absolutely dreamlike bay in a magical forest. Around a campfire, we will let the impressions sink in and end the day with exciting anecdotes.

Day 4: Stage 3
If the first two stages were hard to beat in terms of variety and impressive passages, the third day of the tour continues in the same vein. After bringing our luggage back to the beach, we set off again to tackle the next section of the coast. The highlight of today is the “sette calate,” which takes us abseiling down to the sea. This is followed by a spectacular crossing directly over the breaking waves on the rock faces of the steep coast until we reach one of the most beautiful and important caves in Sardinia. Of course, we don't miss the opportunity to visit this cave and then continue on to our next bivouac site in a beautiful gorge. Direct access to the sea and a small beach for our daily dip in the sea are also a must here, of course.

Day 5: Stage 4
If you think you've seen everything on the Selvaggio Blu, you're in for another surprise on the fourth stage! Today's program includes a highlight that many will remember as perhaps the most impressive passage of the entire trip. An original solution was found to overcome this particularly tricky section of coastline in a spectacular way, making it possible to continue the journey. At the end of the day, we will once again camp on a beach that regularly appears in the top rankings of the world's most beautiful beaches. As is customary on the Selvaggio Blu, we land directly via abseil just a few meters from the water. This steep abseiling passage is definitely worth capturing in your souvenir photos. The fact that we are allowed to spend the night in this wonderful spot is solely due to the fact that the Selvaggio Blu has special permits from the municipal administration in Baunei. No one else is allowed to stay here overnight.

Day 6: Stage 5
In the morning, we leave our last bivouac site right on the coast of Sardinia, but that doesn't mean the Selvaggio Blu is over. Another via ferrata takes us on a spectacular route along the coast and over breathtaking rock ledges directly above the water to the next dream beach. After a short break on the beach, a longer climb up into the mountains awaits us to a lovingly furnished shepherd's hut. This accommodation is now also run as a restaurant. A Sardinian feast awaits us. Here, you don't eat à la carte, but are served local farm produce, and you eat what's available – and it's damn tasty. Luckily, we don't have to walk another meter afterwards and are allowed to spend the night right in Silvio's ovile.

Day 7: Stage 6
It's hard to believe, but today is already the last day of our extreme version of the Selvaggio Blu tour. During the course of the day, we will reach Pedra Longa. This is the starting point for the classic Selvaggio Blu and also marks the end of a fantastic week of touring. We will now have a few days to let all our memories sink in and take effect. Many of the passages will once again cause a tingling sensation when you look at the photos for the first time!
In the evening, we will have a final dinner together in Santa Maria di Navarrese, bringing this week of trekking to a wonderful close.

Day 8: Breakfast and departure
Today, everyone can follow their own rhythm. Franco will bring us breakfast again, which everyone can enjoy individually (depending on their own plans for the journey home). Afterwards, we will pack our things and start our journey home. Those who can have booked a few extra days in Sardinia and will enjoy a few more days of vacation on this wonderful Mediterranean island.

*Important: We are very dependent on the weather and, above all, the sea for this tour due to our supply trips. Fortunately, Sardinia usually has very nice weather and an incredible number of sunny days per year. Nevertheless, it may happen that we have to react flexibly to things beyond our control and adjust the tour accordingly. There are countless variations possible on the Selvaggio Blu, so we will always make the best of the weather and sea conditions.
