ABOUT THE TRIP

Iceland - Ski Touring Trip: The island of fire and ice, known for its magical landscapes and the warm hospitality of the Icelanders. It is the largest volcanic island in the world; nowhere else are glaciers and fire so close together. Our ski touring trip takes us to the north of the island, where we check into our cozy accommodations right next to Iceland's largest fjord. Ski tours with 800–1,200 vertical meters and wide slopes offer ideal terrain for maximum downhill enjoyment. We can ski right down to the sea. Afterwards, we warm up in one of the numerous hotpots (Iceland's natural hot springs) or relax in the hotel's own jacuzzi. But ski touring isn't the only reason to visit Iceland. Of course, we won't miss out on the island's most beautiful natural treasures, which we can enjoy during a very quiet tourist season.

PROGRAM

Day 1: Arrival in Reykjavik
We'll either meet at the airport in Munich before our flight to Iceland together, or, if you're traveling independently, we'll arrive directly in Reykjavik, the northernmost capital city in the world. Flights from Munich usually land in Reykjavik around 4:00 PM. Afterwards, we'll pick up our trusty 4x4 for the next few days and drive to our accommodation. We'll spend the first evening in Reykjavik.

Day 2: Drive to Tröllaskagi
Restated from the rigors of the journey, we'll set off north the next day after a leisurely breakfast. Our five-hour drive will allow us plenty of time to observe some of the island's natural phenomena along the way and admire Iceland's stunning, ever-changing landscape. Once we arrive in the north, we'll move into our own holiday home right by the sea, complete with a private jacuzzi on the veranda, which is fed directly by a thermal spring from Iceland's volcanic subsoil – the ideal place to relax after the tours of the coming days.

Days 3-7: Ski Touring Around Iceland's Largest Fjord
We have five days entirely dedicated to ski touring around Iceland's largest fjord. Starting either directly from our accommodation or with short car rides, we have virtually endless possibilities for dream tours of every length and difficulty. The tours are individually tailored to the group, and everyone is encouraged to experience their own personal ski touring experience. Afterwards, we'll enjoy the soothing power of Icelandic hotpots – hot springs that can be found throughout Iceland and remind us that we're on a volcanic island. The region also offers numerous opportunities for rest or bad weather days to explore spectacular landscapes or simply unwind.

Day 8: Return to Reykjavik
After extensive days of ski touring, we'll also explore Iceland's natural phenomena. On the return journey to Reykjavik, we'll choose a scenic route, depending on our mood, where we'll explore one spectacular waterfall, coastal landscape, or volcanic landscape or another. Once we arrive in Reykjavik, we'll end the evening in the capital.

Day 9: Golden Circle
The Golden Circle is a must-see on any trip to Iceland. We've saved this highlight for last. This day trip to Iceland's most beautiful natural landscapes takes us to Thingvellir National Park (Iceland's oldest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Geysir geothermal area (with the Great Geysir, which gives its name to all other geysers on earth), and Gullfoss Waterfall (one of Iceland's largest and most spectacular waterfalls). We can add other dream destinations as desired (e.g., the Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal pool, the Kerid crater, or the Secret Lagoon in Flúdir). A day packed with the island's highlights. We'll spend the evening together at dinner in Reykjavik and reminisce about the wonderful memories of the past few days.

Day 10: Departure
Then it's time to say goodbye to Iceland, its wonderful people, landscapes, and ski touring opportunities. An unforgettable trip with many highlights and priceless memories lies behind us – we hope to be able to cherish them for a long time to come back home.
