ABOUT THE TRIP
Japan - Ski Touring Trip: "Japow" - a term that makes freeriders' mouths water. Hokkaido's unique climate ensures that not only does snow fall abundantly in winter (15-20 meters in a season), but that it also has a particularly fluffy shape and retains its shape. Japanese sushi powder is the snow with the lowest water content in the world (9%) and is therefore undoubtedly among the finest snow you can find on this planet. On this ski touring trip to Japan, we will not only immerse ourselves in the dreamy powder snow, but also in a foreign culture with wonderful customs and culinary delicacies. Of course, after a long day in the snow, a visit to the traditional onsen, a bath in the baths of volcanic hot springs, is a must. In Hokkaido, we will combine classic ski mountaineering with maximum downhill enjoyment. We will climb several peaks under our own steam to enjoy breathtaking views and ski down untouched slopes. We'll also use the lifts to tackle as many of the fantastic birch forest runs in the "Japow" as possible. The delicious Japanese cuisine also deserves a special mention; it will make this ski touring trip an unforgettable experience in every respect.

PROGRAM
Day 1 + 2: Arrival in Sapporo
We will travel to Japan together (or individually). Once we arrive in Sapporo, we will first pick up our rental cars and drive to Otaru, a beautiful coastal town known for its unique sushi culture. It's the perfect place to get your first taste of Japanese cuisine and culture.
Days 3–4: Freeriding around Otaru
Due to its proximity to Sapporo, there are some very beautiful freeriding areas around Otaru that are ideal for immersing yourself in Japan's foreign ski culture and hopefully getting your first taste of the much-praised powder snow. This area also offers shorter tour options with relatively short travel times. The fact that our accommodation is in the unofficial sushi capital of Japan will delight our palates, especially in the evenings after a day in the snow.
Days 5-8: Niseko
After two days of getting used to the snow, we continue on to Niseko. This area boasts some of Japan's best freeriding terrain within a small area. If the weather is good, there is also the option of climbing one of the volcanic peaks (including a descent into the volcanic crater). The summit tour on Yotei is an absolute highlight of this freeride trip. Of course, none of our tours would be complete without the brilliant descents through the sparse birch forests in the finest “Japow.” In the evenings, we will recharge our batteries for the next day in the onsen. Niseko is one of the most famous and best freeriding areas in the world. Don't expect peace and solitude here, but freeriding in Niseko is a very special experience and you will soon understand why it is considered one of the best areas in the world.
Day 9: From Niseko to Furano
We have now spent a week exploring the area west of Sapporo, and it is time to head east. Our destination for the next few days is Daisetsuzan National Park. The journey takes around 4 hours, giving us plenty of time to visit some sights along the way on this ski-free day. After 6 days of skiing from morning to night, this transfer day comes at just the right time.
Days 10-12: Daisetsuzan National Park
There are several wonderful peaks here that we will climb in good weather. These include Hokkaido's highest: Asahi-Dake (2,290 m) – an active volcano with impressive views. Other options include Tokachi Dake and Furano Dake. If we are less fortunate with the sun but have plenty of fresh snow, we will simply visit one of the numerous freeriding areas in this region again. In any case, our skier's hearts will beat faster here and our palates will be spoiled by the unfamiliar but wonderful cuisine. While our bodies relax in the hot springs. Daisetsuzan National Park is the largest in Japan and is particularly known for its numerous onsen due to the many active volcanoes.
Day 13: Domestic flight to Tokyo
It's time to say goodbye to Hokkaido and the depths of the Japanese winter. We fly further south and don't want to miss out on Japan's capital city. Here, Japan's historic and wonderful culture with its numerous customs and temples meets hi-tech and modernity. Japan is also known for this and is one of the most modern and technologically advanced countries in the world. After our domestic flight from Sapporo to Tokyo, we will spend the evening at the top of Japan's tallest building (and the fourth tallest in the world) to take in the view of the world's largest city with its 40 million inhabitants. It is a breathtaking sight when the sun disappears behind Mount Fuji and the city lights come on.
Day 14: Tokyo
We will spend a full day in Tokyo. Given the countless sights, the foreign culture, the culinary offerings, and the lively and diverse city, this is far too short. But it is definitely worth a visit and a very special experience. We will not have a fixed program here: everyone can pursue their own interests or explore the city together in small groups. Tokyo's subway system is one of the most efficient in the world. It's amazing what you can see thanks to the subways and trams in Tokyo. Provided you don't get lost at Shinjuku Station, the largest station on earth: which can happen with 3.7 million passengers a day and more than 200 entrances and exits. There is also the option of an individual city tour (approx. 4 hours or longer) in German, which we are happy to offer on request for interested individuals or the entire group thanks to our contacts. If you would like to drive a go-kart through the streets of Tokyo in true Super Mario style, you should obtain an international driver's license in Europe in advance (in Italy: €90). But Tokyo has so much to offer, there is something for everyone here...
Day 15: Journey home
It's time to say goodbye to Japan, its incredibly friendly and courteous people, its exciting traditions, delicious food, and, of course, its unique powder snow, and begin the journey home. But the smiles from the last few days will remain etched on our faces even during the long flight home.
