ABOUT THE TRIP

Lofoten - Ski Touring Trip: The Lofoten Islands in the far north of Norway are certainly among the most beautiful and magical places on earth. A mountain range wildly rugged with countless fjords, with peaks up to 1,150 meters high, offers ideal terrain for varied and breathtaking ski tours with descents right down to the sea. Idyllic towns and cozy accommodations with in-house saunas are ideal for recovering from ski tours and unwinding. One night or another, we'll even go in search of the mystical Northern Lights. From February to April, the chances are particularly good on clear nights!

HIGHLIGHTS

- Breathtaking ski tours right by the sea
- Rugged yet magical mountain landscapes with wonderfully varied touring options
- Relaxing in the in-house sauna with a sea view after the tours
- Good chance of seeing the mystical Northern Lights – we'll definitely be on the lookout for them
- Great opportunities to make the most of bad weather days (beautiful towns and fishing villages to stroll through or take photos in, the Viking Museum, chilling in cozy rorbuer (Norwegian fishermen's cottages), a spa and sauna day, or for the adventurous: surfing north of the Arctic Circle...)
- Cinnamon buns 😋 ...each one as delicious as the last

PROGRAM

Day 1: Arrival in Lofoten

Our Lofoten adventure begins with a shared flight via Oslo to Evenes. Here, we'll pick up our rental car and then drive approximately three hours to our accommodation near Svolvaer.

Days 2-8: Ski Touring and Much More in Lofoten

Once we arrive at our accommodation near Svolvaer, we'll find ourselves in what is probably one of the most extraordinary and magical ski touring areas in Europe! To get used to the terrain and snow beyond the Arctic Circle, we'll start with one of the easy classics in Lofoten.

In the coming days, we'll embark on a variety of ski tours, from stunning traverses to descents directly to the sea, and explore the highlights of this region. In Lofoten, any kind of weather is possible at any time of year. The sky and the mood change by the minute, and the wild landscape combined with this harsh and atmospheric weather will leave us open-mouthed in amazement more than once, inviting us to simply enjoy it!

Sauna culture is deeply rooted in Norway, and what could be more beautiful than warming up cold limbs after a perhaps windy and strenuous ski tour in a Finnish sauna right by the sea, enjoying a unique view and recharging our batteries for the days ahead, letting the day's experiences sink in!

Should the weather let us down, or our bodies call for a day off, Lofoten offers numerous opportunities to explore this peninsula beyond the bounds of dreamy ski tours. Numerous towns with picturesque town centers and old fishing villages in unique locations spread across several small islands invite you to explore. Svolvaer, Henningsvær, and Kabelvag are in our immediate vicinity, but a trip to the tip of the Lofoten Islands, to Reine and Å, is also well worth it. A stop at the Viking Museum along the way is well worth a visit.

For the most adventurous, surfing in winter 300 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle is guaranteed to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that no one back home would believe. Thanks to thick wetsuits and neoprene gloves, the already lukewarm waters of the North Atlantic are surprisingly pleasant.

A Lofoten trip also includes a hunt for the Northern Lights! On clear nights, we'll go in search of the Aurora Borealis.

With perhaps not quite as much sleep as at home, but all the more experiences, intense days, and unforgettable impressions, this ski touring week will fly by! Delicious food and not-so-cheap beer round out the whole experience for a successful vacation!

Day 9: Return flight home

After 8 unforgettable and eventful days, it's time to say goodbye to the far north of Norway. Most likely with the secret promise to return to this wonderful place someday.
