ABOUT THE TRIP
Russia - Ski Touring Trip: A journey with touring skis to one of the most remote corners of the earth. Siberia represents a landscape of unimaginable magnitude. A land of superlatives, it's quite fitting that we'll be located directly on the largest and deepest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Baikal, south of it in the Mamay Mountains. This region is guaranteed snow with the finest powder snow as early as the end of November. The unique climatic and geographical conditions, thanks to cool temperatures combined with a lake that isn't yet frozen over, ensure abundant precipitation in the form of snow starting in late autumn. Temperatures consistently below freezing ensure that this fine powder snow stays that way. If the lake freezes over later in the winter, the climate becomes considerably drier, and there is hardly any precipitation.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Arrival in Siberia - Irkutsk
We will fly to Moscow together or individually and from there continue towards Lake Baikal in the late evening.
Day 2: Transfer to the Mamay Mountains
Our overnight flight will take us deep into the Siberian forests to Irkutsk. We will arrive here in the early morning and be transferred directly to the village of Vydrino on the southern shore of Lake Baikal. From there, we will continue by ski-doos to the Mamay Valley, where we will stay in a rustic mountain hut with its own "banya," the traditional Russian sauna.
Days 3-8: Ski Touring in the Mamay Valley
Over the next few days, we will ski numerous fantastic powder slopes from our rustic and remote hut and end our daily ski tours in a cozy banya. The stunning view of Lake Baikal will be our constant companion as we blaze trails through dry and exceptionally soft powder snow, something we won't find in this form in the Alps. Our guides will serve us wonderful traditional meals and we'll enjoy boundless Russian hospitality.
Day 9: Ski Tour from the Mamay Valley and Transfer to Irkutsk
On our last day, we'll leave the Mamay Valley on skis. A shorter ski tour will take us back to civilization. Our belongings will be transported back out by skidoo. We'll make a detour to Lake Baikal and return to Irkutsk, where we'll end the evening in the Russian university town.
Day 10: Domestic Flight to Moscow
We'll split the long journey home, first flying from Irkutsk to the Russian capital, Moscow.
Day 11: Moscow
Since we're already in Russia, we won't miss a day and evening in the historic capital with its breathtaking magnificent buildings and the famous Red Square.
Day 12: Departure
After two weeks that literally flew by, we've learned a great deal about Russian culture, its great hospitality, and the endless expanses of Siberia. Now, however, it's time to say goodbye and begin our journey home. But not without a wealth of unforgettable memories and guaranteed once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
