Valpelline - ski touring trip: the Valpelline in the Aosta Valley offers first-class mountain scenery. It lies directly south of Valais four-thousanders such as the Grand Combin, the Dent d'Hérens and the Matterhorn. The mountains are correspondingly wild and impressive.
Even so, the Valpelline offers wonderful touring options that are suitable for beginners but can also – depending on the choice of tour – be demanding and long. The valley is barely developed for tourism. Ski pistes and lifts are nowhere to be found.
On the tours you will meet only a handful of people. The surrounding mountains are simply too prominent and alluring – and that is exactly what has an almost purifying effect on this beautiful valley. At our accommodation we are treated to typical regional delicacies and excellent cuisine. A ski touring week that leaves little to be desired.

'- Ascents of 1,100 - 1,500 vertical metres (3-4 hours)
- Skiing on pistes (parallel turns) should be no problem, so that you can also manage reasonably well in deep snow

PROGRAMME
Day 1: Journey into the valley
Together or separately, we travel to the Aosta Valley, and from the capital of this autonomous Italian region we head into the long valley towards the main Alpine ridge. The mountains grow ever higher, the landscape more rugged and forbidding. This is exactly the right place for big ski touring days, in an area that leaves you wanting more from the moment you arrive.
Days 2-6: Ski tours in the Valpelline
Over the following days we make the most of the many touring options in the Valpelline, setting off directly from our accommodation. With the high summits all around, there is plenty to see and marvel at during the tours. It is hard to believe what beautiful ski slopes lie between these rocky giants. We can pick and choose from a wealth of ski tours and can usually look forward to having them to ourselves. Hardly any other ski tourers stray into this wonderful corner of the world. Depending on conditions and the group, we choose suitable objectives – sometimes relaxed, sometimes a little longer and more demanding, but always with the valley's special character. At the end of each tour we are welcomed back to our accommodation with Italian hospitality and spoilt with local delicacies.
Day 7: Journey home
After a week, sadly, it is already time to say goodbye to the Valpelline. With wonderful memories and lots of great photos of our ski tours, we set off home – probably already thinking about returning to this wild valley soon.

Where do we stay during the week?
We stay the whole week in one fixed accommodation in the Valpelline and set off on our tours from there. This keeps the trip comfortable, and after the ski days regional cuisine and a cosy base await us.
What equipment do I need to bring?
The exact packing list comes with the confirmation email. The essentials, of course, are your ski touring equipment and suitable clothing. Any missing equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
