Similaun - Normal Route: An easy glacier tour on the 3,599-metre Similaun, high above the Schnalstal. From Vernagt Reservoir, the route leads to the Similaun Hut and on the following day all the way to the summit.
A wonderful opportunity to gain your first glacier experience while also visiting the historic discovery site of Ötzi. The normal route is technically manageable and for anyone wanting to get a first taste of the world of alpine mountaineering, Similaun is a very fitting objective.

PROGRAM
Day 1: Approach to the hut
The meeting point and starting point for the alpine tour on Similaun is the car park by Vernagt Reservoir in Schnals. Alternatively, a shared transfer from Klausen or Bozen can be arranged when booking. Through the quiet and idyllic Tisental, we ascend to the Similaun Hut. On the first day, for example, a visit to the Ötzi discovery site is also possible; it can be reached from the hut in about one hour.

Day 2: Summit and descent
The second day is entirely focused on our ascent to the summit of Similaun. From the Similaun Hut, we reach the summit via the technically easy but very beautiful glacier high above the Schnalstal. From the summit, we still have the descent to Vernagt ahead of us that day, where our car is parked. With great satisfaction, we can look back on a wonderful alpine tour and memorable impressions of the glacier.

Is the Similaun tour suitable for beginners?
Yes, Similaun via the normal route is a good first alpine mountaineering tour for sure-footed mountain hikers with good fitness. You should be prepared for longer ascents and walking in crampons, but extensive prior alpine experience is not required.
Can you visit the Ötzi discovery site on the tour?
Yes, on the first day it is possible to make a detour from the Similaun Hut to the Ötzi discovery site. This is particularly worthwhile if we still have enough time and energy after the hut approach.
What do I need to bring for the tour?
You will receive the exact packing list with the confirmation email. The most important items are sturdy mountain boots and suitable clothing for an alpine mountaineering tour. Technical equipment can be rented from Südtirolalpin for a small wear-and-tear fee.
